If your bunnies are going through a shed, make sure to check weekly.

When the weather is decent I have my husband help me as a “spotter” (an extra hand) and I take the bunnies out on our deck and put them on the table and groom them outside. It keeps most of the mess outside- and I figure the birds can make nests out of the super plush bunny hair. They are not used to being outside- and they tend to stay on the towel on the table as they are out of their element. But I am such a overprotective bunny parent that I make sure I have hubby on hand just in case they jump off the table.
And the HairBuster comb is the BEST for shedding bunnies and cats (at least short haired- not sure about long haired bunnies or cats).

Ugh…yours only shed in spring? Mine seem to shed ALL year round! lol Shop vac my apartment weekly and you’d think by the end of the week that I never do! lol

Cotton who is mostly white is looking like a bedraggled cotton ball with all her little “pluckies”- but she has limited patience so it is an ongoing process during a major shed. She has super fine, plush fur so some birds will have a luxury nest if they use her fur for nesting material.

Mine both hate to be brushed, so it’s difficult. Hannah hardly sheds (only one major shed in the last year), but Otto definitely does four times a year. Since he hates to be brushed, but likes to have his bum scratched, I’ll scratch him and gradually pull out loose fur. Last night I got a whole handful of fur before he realized I was secretly grooming him. Haha.

I also try to brush during breakfast while they’re eating. There’s no chance they’ll stay still otherwise, but usually if they’re eating I can get a few brushes in.

Tis the season to be sheddin’…fa-la-la-la-la-la cough-choke-hack! 0_o;

I use the Love Gloves for my buns, none of them like them much. Pip is VERY combative right now as she hates being plucked, groomed, brushed, combed or tape rolled. Fiver used to be my difficult bunny, and I have to use the glove on him to help protect my hand from boxing and nipping.

Mine often go down to skin or at least velvet. Drives me nuts. I am VERY gentle. They don’t agree though and give me a hard time so I have to go for it when I get the chance.

My allergies get no relief either. My buns also seem to be in perpetual shed state and I found that at least with my mini-rex that eating certain type of hays tend to make his fur more ratty, while others keep him more sleek. No idea why. :-/

Katnip, I envy you. I wish our weather was nice enough for outdoor grooming. I could stand to swallow a little less bunny fur for sure!
Never thought about how the birdies could benefit from that…lolz…cool! Yeah, all my buns are like Cotton….not willing to sit still and be insulted by poky, plucky hands!
