So I decided to try to clean out the famous sent glands and I did! Only on mocha so far because he sits really still and doesn’t mind being on his back. when I got done he attacked the towel he was wrapped in any tips to help keep lulu on her back with out kicking and hurting herself?

Pet her for a while and give her some treats beforehand. Also, if you can, do the cleaning in the afternoon when she’s sleepy.

all right. What about when I flip her over? she will NOT let me do it and if I do then she flips back onto her stomach even if I am holding her tight.

The best way to get them on their backs is by wrapping them “buritto-style” first. Make sure the towel is wrapped snug so she can’t wiggle around and flip over again. Also be sure to support her back and butt so that she doesn’t try to kick. It’s not uncommon for bunnies to break their own backs kicking too hard. And, like FluffyBunny said, give her treats and lots of pets first so she is calm from the beginning. Best Luck!

I always take mine to an unfamiliar room to do the trancing upside down. That way they aren’t in “their” area, and are easier to control. Try flipping her upside down in the bathroom maybe. Put a towel on your lap, sit on the floor, and flip her, tucking her body between your legs a bit to hold her snugly.

Hehe, she loves the bathroom so i don’t think that would work but she barely goes downstairs so I could try that. Is it necessary to do it? like is it important.

Some bunnies don’t need their glands cleaned at all. Only do them if they need it. None of my 3 have ever needed theirs done

Only do it if they need it done. None of my 3 have ever needed theirs cleaned, so I never try.

so if I don’t smell them they don’t need to be?

check to see if they are clogged, but if they are good, don’t clean them out.

…sorry about the sort of double post up there, I thought it hadn’t posted

If there is any residue in the scent glands- clean it out. Some bunnies may not get a build up for awhile. Try keeping her eyes covered to keep her quieter when you have her restrained- I have noticed that helps.

I can’t trance Bindi…it’s impossible, even my vet can’t do it. The few times I’ve had to clean his scent glands I get my bf to hold him with Bindi’s head and paws on his shoulder and I sort of crouch down, lift up his tail and do it that way. Might not work for all bunnies but it’s the only way I can it done on Bindi. I use this method when I give him a bum shave too.
