I found out that I am scheduled for Orientation next week at my new job, as well as training. The manager at my new job wants me to give my current (and terrible) job a one week notice. I agreed to that.

I call my boss at the place I am still at, and he unleashes his wrath on me, saying “This is so unprofessional giving a one week notice, you are burning your bridges, I hope you don’t do this to your other employers.”

Yeah, and he was pretty mad while he said it.

I just said “This place put me on the schedule this coming week and I can’t change that.”

He says “I thought you are on OUR schedule until the 11th!”

Me: “I don’t work the 11th, I’m only on the schedule for 3 days next week.”

He goes off to grab the schedule to look at it. (I’m having a DUH, you are the manager, you don’t know when you scheduled me!?)

I got off of the phone, and I was ticked. Very very tIcked. It showed. People were asking me what is going on and I didn’t say anything. I spoke to an employee at the front desk (I work at a gym, and I work at the juice bar, but the gym does not own the juice bar) that came to get some food. He saw me frazzled. He said that he can tell the boss is an idiot.

You know, I feel I did the right thing, giving a notice. I could have given a one day notice, but I’m not dumb. He hired 2 new people also.

There has been so much turnover. You know, the way that he spoke to me shows me how he presents himself, and how his employees are. I have seen through his act.

Him and his wife have called me today. I don’t want to talk to them. If a person is going to talk to me like that and give me crap, why should I talk? They obviously do not respect my wishes. His message was “I hate to do this, but I’d like to talk to you about things that happened yesterday.” Things? As in.. how STUPID you sounded?

I am turning in my key this Thursday. I’m going to work out there still, but I will never talk to them again.

OH, and yes, after I get my last check, they are getting reported to L&I for tip fraud.

I’m sorry you got treated that way. But I love how he was like “you’re burning bridges” like you would even go back there. lol Maybe he meant for references, but if they treated all their employees like crap what makes them think people are going to use them as references? All in all, they both sound like a couple of fraudulent idiots. Mentally tell them off! After a week you won’t have to deal with them at all, ever again!

          Good luck at Fred Meyer’s!!!

Bosses can be such butt munches. I feel you giving at least a one week notice is adequate by far. Like you said some people don’t even give a one day notice or just don’t show up anymore. Plus, isn’t it illegal for your present dumb boss to say anything negative about you to any future employers?

Ugh-economy! I wish I could airlift y’all here. You could not show up for weeks, then demand pay for the shifts you no-showed for and get a raise. This economy is so not touching us here-I wish I could help by sharing *hugs*
BTW legally and professionally-if you have not worked there two years, one week notice is standard. Most places pay you and do not expect you to work your one or two weeks notice (2 if after five years) *hugs*

Hint-working in HR a lot lately-do not complain about old boss to new boss. Apologize to old boss no matter how wrong they are

And I have to say (as someone who works a piddly little retail job!), it’s a freakin’ juice bar. You’re not with the District Attorney’s office, nor are you the top Brain Surgeon in your area. (No offense Brittany, but you know what I mean.) At least you TOLD him. Lots of people would just… not show up again. Or walk out mid-shift. I’m sending you out hugs to get thru the rest of your days there!

Oh yes, I do know what you mean Beka!

K&K, Yes, I haven’t even talked about my old boss to the new store. I don’t plan to.

I’m excited for my Orientation at the new workplace! I have a feeling I’ll be here for a while.. until I can start/finish school and secure a medical position. The new job said it would work with me when it comes to me wanting to volunteer at a local hospital.
