No, not Dutchess, but me! I have pink eye (99.9% sure, going to doc this morning), but I’m freaking out now because I’m constantly petting Dutchess on her head and getting normal sleep crust out of her eyes every day, and rubbing her cheeks and stuff. I’m sure I’ve had the infection for several days but just not my eye started to get all red and goopy and stuff. Can bunnies get pink eye or an eye infection from what I’ve got??  I hope not, I’d feel terrible if I gave her something.

I know some kinds of pink eye can be past to a rabbit but can’t think of what kind. Just make sure to wash your hands really good before you touch her/her stuff.

I do have pink eye I’ll be careful never to touch my eye and stuff, and watch hers . . . I hope nothing happens to her.

I have read so many different things about this (and next time I talk to my vet, I will ask) but my understanding is that if it is bacteria based (and even then it has to be a particular type of bacteria I think) then it can be contagious to your bunny. If it’s viral based then it won’t be contagious to your bunny.

I also found this old thread which basically says the same thing but may have a few more tips for you . https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/110357/Default.aspx

Here’s a little suggestion that could be listed under “just in case”: You could get some thin cotton or latex gloves and just wear those for a couple of days when you handle her until you know you are not contagious. Grocery stores have disposables and cotton are washable.

I believe it’s viral, I looked up in a medical thing, and it said – “Pink eye” refers to a viral infection of the conjunctiva. These infections are especially contagious among children. I’m a preschool teacher, which is where I got this, so it sounds like it probably isn’t going to spread to her. Good idea though RabbitPam, I’ll see what’s in the house.

Oh kids! Little germ carriers! I tease my friends about what their children and pigeons have in common teehee
Pink eye sucks-how are you feeling?

You should pick up some hand sanitizer gel (for future use too!) and that way if you are tempted to not run to the bathroom you can just quickly sanitize as needed to keep from passing it on!

I’m feeling a bit better. I have so much hand sanitizer it’s coming out my ears I use it all day long practically, which is why it’s so weird I even got this in the first place x.x

No signs of problems in Dutchess’ eyes today. Yay!
