Smokey turned 2 years old this Saturday and since she’s a preschool rabbit, she gets a party, complete with cupcakes! Instead of party hats, they made grey bunny ears. They sang Happy Birthday to her and then ate the awesome cupcakes ![]()
It is also customary in my school to make a “birthday book” for the person who’s birthday it is. Instead of coloring a “Happy Birthday” picture, they were asked to draw Smokey. This is how today’s class turned out ![]()
As you can see, some are more artistic than others.
I also thought I’d share my earrings I wore today. I got these from an Etsy seller about a year ago and they were close to $25, but it was worth every penny ![]()
I’ll post tomorrow’s class pictures tomorrow when I get home ![]()
Aw, how cute! Happy birthday, Smokey!
Thanks for sharing the pics. That party and birthday book Miss Sue’s Class had for Smokey is just adorable! I can see why you’re enamoured of the earrings – they’re precious! …And last but not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SMOKEY!! Many, many more!
Happy Birthday Smokey! Hope all your birthday wishes come true. Is she wishing for a new bunny friend?
Love all the versions of Smokey. In some she has hooves, others she has chicken feet. heehee!
Your earrings, did you have them made from a photo of Smokey or just happen to find them? Definately looks like her.
That is so sweet of your class! Happy birthday to Smokey!
Aww, that was a great birthday!
Happy birthday Smokey!
SmokeyBunnyRobinson, would you happen to have the link to the etsy person who made the earrings and would you be willing to post it? I was wondering if I could get a pair of my pets. Thanks! Once again, the earrings are just fabulous and so distinctive!
I could definitely give you the seller’s shop link. It is an actual photo I gave her that she shrinky dinked then put a hard plastic over. I had her do lettuce on the one earring since when I first had these made, Smokey used to turn her nose up at carrots. : )
I’ll let her know I’m sending some people her way. Make sure you have a couple pictures you like so that she can pick the one that will work the best for the shrinking process ![]()
This is the process used to make the earrings:
“These original earring images are hand drawn on shrinky dink plastic sheets with prismacolor pencils. I bake the pieces, then coat them with a clear layer of lacquer. I use epoxy glue to attach the plastic to thin sterling silver wire. The plastic is very lightweight. Lastly, I attach them to silver plated hoops. Original wearable art!”
Her Etsy seller name is fuzzybunnystew.

Aww that’s so sweet! Love your earrings too…happy birthday Smokey! My favorite artistic depiction is the last one where Smokey is one big bunny poofball
Just a suggestion, though: out of respect to the kids and their parents, I’m not sure if you’ll want to be posting their picture on the internet. They look like adorable little kids, and I wouldn’t want anybody to get ahold of their pictures!
Thanks! I’ll be contacting fuzzybunnystew. Thanks for the etsy link. Happy Birthday, Smokey!
In the beginning of the year, they sign a permission form. There pictures are used for plenty of media, as well as online, where people could steal their pictures, not that anyone looking through bunny forums is looking to steal children’s pictures haha. Not to mention with everyone posting their lives on Facebooks. It’s fine ![]()
That’s so sweet! I’m very fond of children’s drawings. I love how every kid has such a different take on what they are drawing. I have a pencil drawing hanging in my rabbit room that my 4 year old niece made of all 3 bunnies in their cages. The have stick legs.
Love the cupcakes. Noms!! Did you make them?
Does Smokey live there full-time?
Children’s interpretations are probably some of the best, and funniest, things I’ve seen in the 3 years I’ve worked with children.
The cupcakes were actually made by Walmart. $12 for 24 cupcakes and the design is done for free and ready the next day, usually
Nonono, I’ve posted pictures of Smokey (in my sig, too!) of her condo. I could never leave her at work ;( She comes to work with me Monday-Thursday (if she doesn’t fight me too much to come out of her condo) and has a cage at school. She loves the kids and they love her. It also teaches them about patience (waiting for her to come to them) and how to pet animals nicely. We also talk to them about how rabbits or pets in general aren’t just all loving and fun, it’s a lot of work.
Even before she was fixed and had all those hormones in her, she has never once scratched, bit, or attacked a kid. She has no problem nipping my sister when she irritates her though hahahaha
This post made me smile. It’s so interesting to see how different each kid’s picture and interpretation of Smokey is. Also, I just love that the class pet is a bunny since bunnies are not the most kid-friendly pets. I think having a bunny can teach the kids patience, compassion, and so much more.
OMG SMOKEY!!!!! I NEED CHACHA EARRINGS!!!!!!!!!! EEEEEEEE!!!!!!!1
All the kids are so cute!
I’m so happy Smokey is apart of the class. It is good to spread education of rabbits to the young ones ![]()
I really am glad I made the decision to bring her to work. Plus, I get to see her multiple times during the day as opposed to me being gone for 8+ ours a day without my Smokey
And it really does teach them compassion, patience, understanding and how much work a bunny is. They also have to come to realize they have to speak quietly or else she gets scared. In the beginning of the year is always rough, and Smokey often gets a bit stressed at their volume, but they learn so quickly how to treat her and what she likes and doesn’t like.
They set up small building block towers since she likes to be a brat and knock things over. They get a blast, and she often does binkies for them because it makes them all giggle. She’s definitely a little diva spotlight bun!
