Ok, so my fat little bun, has developed little pink bald patches on his hocks.  We saw the vet and the verdict is limit pellets, treats and exercise.  Watch and monitor the condition.  So I’m reconsidering the flooring in bun-ville, right now it’s carpeting with seagrass mats, and fleecy beds, as well as paper litter.

In order to get the proper toenail sinkage, I am considering:

        -cork flooring

        -marble area (summertime cooling)

        -faux sheepskin

        Any suggestions?

Are the bald spots open wounds?

No open wounds, just bald, good skin response to pressure. The vet didn’t see any sign of infection just bald bun feet.

I don’t have experience with sore hocks or fur loss on feet but I doubt that changing the flooring from what you currently have (carpet, seagrass mats etc.) to cork and sheepskin will help your bunny’s feet. The cork would possibly also pose an ingestion risk and the sheepskin I imagine would be annoying to have to clean and keep sanitary.

The flooring types you have sound like they’re soft and mild enough on the feet as it is. It must be a weight issue or other problem.

Maybe someone else can help you more though.

My vet suggested for Arduina (she has sore hocks) a variety of floorings so they have choice. I also found a big comforter blanket at the second hand store that I got and I spread it out on the floor for her or double it up to its squishy. The set up you have now sounds fine. I like to switch things up, like rotate blankies while you wash the old ones.

I guess I would focus on the diet. But do it gradual. Oh and the vet also suggested to increase exercise to help her loose weight, as long as she is comfortable. Her hocks don’t seem to slow her down.

It will be an on-going thing. My vet prescribed silver sulfadiazine (sp?) cream to put on Arduina’s feet, supposed to be 2-3 times a day. Arduina hates it not only do I have to flip her over on her back, but touch her sensitive footies! I don’t do it often.. oops.

Eternally sorry. My phone decided to go crazy and post something in the incorrect thread.
