Hi All,
Stopping by to ask a question about hay.
I’ve noticed lately that the Oxbow timothy hay that I’ve been buying has not been so soft lately. It’s very hard and dry and like sticks.
I’ve been a little paranoid about this because my bunny died from eating this hay (he had a preforatted intestine from a piece of hay…it was so sharp) I didn’t realize at the time that this could happen and when I felt the bag of hay that I was giving him and I noticed it had a lot of “sharp” pieces in it. I took it back to the store at the time because I didn’t want to continue to give it to my other bunny.
Now all I do when I go to the pet stores is feel these bags of hay…both oxbow and kaytee … and notice that there are alot of sharp pieces of hay in them. On rare occasions I will find a bag that is only soft hay and I will use that. I had no choice this time but to buy a bag of hay with very dry pieces in it.
Has anyone else ever had this situation?? Am I being too paranoid in trying to keep my bunny safe? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Chris
