         Just wondered  when I got Basil at 7 weeks old he was totally blue otter markings , but since he’s just had a major shed and lost a load of baby fluff (he’s a lionhead) he isn’t totally blue. His whole back has gone a sort of dark brown agouti and the only blue left is his mane and skirt. The white otter markings are there . I just wondered if this has happened to anyone elses buns when they mature?

           Yeah, I believe this happens very often to rabbits as they mature – their coloring changes. My rabbit sammy went from bright orange to a medium brown agouti color. He’s nine months now… the change happened maybe around 6… It’s kind of changing back again, so it might be seasonal in part.

            Thats interesting Otti like I said Basil’s just 6 months now. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens next! By the way I just read your thread about Sammy’s health scare and I hope he’s feeling better now x

              Yes, thanks for asking, he’s doing much better today. He ate a bowl and a half of arugula and started eating pellets again for the first time in two weeks today as well. He’s almost completely back to normal eating-wise!

              I think you can’t know what their final adult color is going to be till they’re one year old or so, and even then many rabbits still change shades seasonally throughout their lives

                Sounds quite normal haha

                I have an otter too. She is a black otter. She has been blowing her coat big time recently. Her undercoat is.. WHITE o_O;;

                  Absolutely. And it can continue throughout their life. I started with Spockie having light gray markings on his white coat, and at 7 years old my whole family noticed that he was almost black in his spots. It just happens.

                    Cotton- in my avatar- is a shaded or color point (unsure of exact term) and she like a Siamese cat gets darker as she gets older.  You can see it on her body when she sheds- we call it “ring around the bun” at our house as she sheds out from the top down it seems.

                    I have not noticed it at all with my black and white Mini Lop and only very slightly with my blue tort English Lop.  So I think some colors are more prone to varying with age/weather.

                      Malachi is 10 months old. Hes all white. But for the last couple of months i’ve notice that he has, very lightly black hairs on his face. I’ve tried to take pictures of it but it wont show up. He also has some on his ears. Lol I wonder if they will get darker or just stay that way.

                         It happened to me too. Huckleberry was 100% solid coal black when I got her at just a few weeks old. I noticed a few little white tipped hairs showing up around her paws and face around 4 months. Gradually, like a wave, the white tipped hairs moved over her body and now cover her except for her paws, nose and behind her ears. When she sheds, she gets lines around her tush and back that are white tipped or solid black.

                          LOF those pics of Huckleberry are exactly like Basil is now that sort of speckly colour! Chacha his otter markings are pure white always have been the white isnt changing just the blue lol but they stand out a bit more now he’s lost a lot of his baby fluff he just finished a major shed too he looked so raggy bless him ! I got my first ever foot flicks off him when he got totally annoyed at being plucked! They just don’t understand do they!!! By the way whats the male equivalent of a diva? Because he’s definately turning into one! I was calling him a diva( we only found out for definate he is a he 3 weeks ago I was told he was a she)
