I wondered if anyone had an opinion of this wooden hideaway that is sold at Drs. Fosters and Smith. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ…atid=17080.  It’s not for my own two house rabbits, but I was thinking of buying it to donate to the sale table at  the annual Open House at the Rabbit Sanctuary where I volunteer.  I recently got a gift certificate to Drs. Foster and Smith, and I was looking around to see what I could get for the sale, in addition to what I’m going to get for my bunnies.  I have already bought the Peter’s Natural Haven Grass Cube from Amazon to donate to the sale.  I saw some good reviews for that here.

The description for the wooden hideway says that it is exterior plywood, stained red.  I wanted to make sure it’s safe.  I assume the stain that is used is the same used for wooden chew toys, which I presume is safe.  It doesn’t give a country of origin.  I don’t know if customer service would know anything about that.  I worry about something coming from China and being made with unsafe  materials.  I also wonder if this is something that a rabbit would like.  I know that some rabbits don’t feel comfortable going inside a box that only has one entrance, that they also need an exit so as not to feel trapped.

I would appreciate it if anyone who has this hideaway or something similar, could let me know what they think about it.  Thanks.

I believe that rabbits woud love that as a hide out.
I have a fuzzy rabbit condo (mine just rips out the material and spits it out) that has one opening as well and she loves it.

Thanks for your reply, LoveChaCha. I found this wooden hideaway on some other sites, and they stated that it’s made with non toxic stain and that it’s made in the USA. So that makes me feel good regarding its safety. I don’t know why they didn’t include that information on Drs. Foster and Smith. One site had 3 reviews and they were all positive ones.

It’s good to know that your rabbit loves a structure with one opening. At the sanctuary where I volunteer, we have always used homemade plywood boxes, and they had two openings. At my house, I have sturdy cardboard boxes for my bunnies, both have two arched openings. One is turned over, so it’s like a tunnel that they can run through–which they love to do, and the other is filled with paper so that they can hop inside and rip away to their heart’s content.
