I made a sort of how-to video on how I clean Sunny’s litterbox each day. I thought it may be helpful for some new people, especially since you can see my set up.  When I first got Sunny I had a hard time figuring out how to set his area up (litterbox & hay).

I like your idea of only putting the litter in the corner he pees in to save on litter. That’s smart. What type of litter do you use?

I like to dump the litter into a plastic bag by putting the bag around the litter box, and then dumping it. This way, once you tie up the bag and put it in the trash bag, the smell from the litter isn’t as bad in your trash can.

I use a tote to dump the used litter in, with a lid, and I cannot smell it at all. Once it starts getting full/heavy we take it out in the woods and dump it behind the house lol

I use equine bedding/wood pellets, and I can never smell the urine, unless he misses the litter or something and it doesn’t get absorbed.

hmmm I should try those now that Sammy is eating the Carefresh. So it’s like an air-tight tote? it looked like a trash can, that’s why i was confused lol

what’s the brand of the pellets?

Well it is supposed to be an air tight tote, but there are some small holes poked in the top. Still can’t smell anything until it’s almost full. It’s called Equine Fresh, and i get it a tractor supply. A 40 lb. bag costs $6 and some cents.

He’s very well trained to only pee in that specific corner. I’m amazed at how little litter you can use.

I layer their boxes with a couple sections of newspaper, and I cover that with a large scoop of pellets. They spread out into a very thin, single layer, and I can still see the newspaper underneath. I do this with two boxes. I use more litter than you tho because I only change the boxes about twice a week.

I think I was the one that was trained!lol…I just noticed where he would naturally pee in there and I put litter there (started out as one corner), then he would pee a little bit more toward the other end (where the bowl of oat hay is) so I just spread it out to there. He also uses the same side in the litter box in the living room. I guess I got lucky!

great video!  You are lucky to get away with using a small amount of litter.  I might be able to train my bunnies to use less- but probably not train my husband that they need less (more is better guy kinda thinking).  LOL

I line my litterbox with pieces of thick paper that I got from work that were going to be thrown away- so when we peel the paper away it removes the stuck on litter.  But we don’t clean our boxes daily- so we have a bigger mess from the soaked/crumbled pellet litter.
