I have a male (Rondo) and female (Zoey) bunny who have been bonded for about 6-7 months.  They are totally fine in their x-pen/bunny room  and hallway upstairs – the bedrooms upstairs are wood, which they do not enjoy walking on.  Zoey, the more dominant one, mounts Rondo occationally still, but mostly during food time.  I am trying to expand their access to the downstairs on occasion as well because they have more carpeted area to run around.  I had them out downstairs for about 1 hour yesterday and everything seemed to be going fine.  They were exploring the new territory and pretty much ignorring eachother besides Rondo requesting to be groomed (with no success) from Zoey a few times.  However, after the hour of exploring Zoey began continously mounting Rondo.  I took them back upstairs after this started.

So….Does Zoey just need to establish her dominance in this new territory as well?  Will she get over this once they are used to the new area (I’ll bring them downstairs several times a week for additional exercise from this point forward)?  Will this excessive mounting cause any problems on their current bond (they get along fine upstairs)?  They seemed fine once they were put back upstairs yesterday – I just dont want to cause any problems by giving them play time downstairs in a new terriroty.

Also, on a side note, both bunnies will not go down the stairs on their own.  They do not seem to have a problem going back up the stairs to the their rooms, but I dont want to have to carry them down the stairs all the time (they dont enjoy being carried).  Any tips on teaching them to go down the stairs? The stairs are carpeted.

Mounting can be stress related which sounds like it might be in this case. It can also be due to excitement like during food time. I think she will get over this once she feels comfortable.

As for stairs, they will eventually go down if you let them decide on their own to go down. They may just prefer being upstairs rather than down too because it’s more familiar.
