Hey everyone. I used to post a lot when I first got Bambi, but college has a way of killing your time, ha.

Basically, I noticed this afternoon that Bambi has a weird thing under his chin. The hair around it is matted but there is no obvious sore or anything around the area. It’s a normal skin colored pink, not red or anything, and it kind of like the scent glands that I usually clean around his genitals.I’ve never noticed the one under his chin. I know there’s supposed to be one there but I didn’t realize it was visible if that is what it is. I’m mostly worried my baby has a cyst or something.

I should note that Bambi is a little overweight (he should be 4-5 pounds but he’s 5.5ish) and he’s never had any health problems before. He’s fixed and eating well.

So, binkybunny members: any ideas as to what may be causing this?

Thanks everyone in advance! You guys are amazing.

        – Amanda

I don’t think I quite understand what it looks like…Is it a lump, or does it look like an anal gland?

theres a scent gland under the chin, Usako’s always gets a bit gooey ever few days, and i hafta fumble the fur in my fingers a bit to get the crusties off (the warmth from your fingers softens the clump). some bunnies are just heavy scenters

if it is totally visible, and lump-ish, take him in to a vet

It isn’t really a lump. It’s more like a little patch of skin that I can only see because the fur around it is slightly matted. It isn’t visibly swollen by any means- the only reason I saw it in the first place is because he went on his hind legs for a treat. Is he just over grooming, maybe? Do you clean chin scent glands like normal anal ones, Longhairmike? I tried to take a picture but I can’t make him sit still, haha.

I would take a warm, damp soft cloth (only. No products.) and clean the area that is matted gently until it is no longer matted. Dry it gently with a towel. If it still is a red sore area that is different from the surrounding un-matted fur, I would have a vet look at it. If it gets bigger, take him to a vet immediately.

I’m feeling a little better about it. I cleaned the area and he didn’t seem to be in any pain or anything, and he’s been acting normal. I think his scent gland just needed to be cleaned. Thanks everyone!
