We’re supposed to get 12-18inches of snow with blizzard conditions.  The news stations are warning to expect power outages.  I am now freaking out a bit cause I don’t recall ever having been in a power outage with my buns.  So if my power does go out, what do I do?  Besides making sure Lolli doesn’t get to the candles, is there anything else I should be aware of?

i wouldn’t think there would be much to be worried about except running out of water if the water pressure goes or it getting too cold indoors if the heat stays out. rabbits are better at dealing with the dark than humans, i believe. i’d fill the bathtub with water, though, and make sure you’ve got plenty of food, litter, etc., on hand.

Our power goes out from time to time and I never do anything special for my rabbits. As long as you have enough bottled water and light to reload their hay — it’s fine. If cold becomes an issue, more hay wiill help that too.

no matter the problem, the answer is typically “more hay.”

Well and now is when I wish I had an oil lamp. If the electricity goes out, I’ll have to light several candles. lol

Make sure you know where they are, and where matches or a lighter are. And flashlights with fresh batteries. And blankets

Monkeybun – I have gathered all my candles, put 2 in my bathroom, rest in the my living room, found my flashlight and lighter. So now I’m just praying the electricity doesn’t go out. lol Working on the fresh water as well. And making some chicken to eat on anyways. lol

Our furnace would not stay on last night- it would kick on and then turn off no matter what I tried to do with it. I just gave the bunnies extra hay- and I had electricity so I put a little electric heater in their room. The other pets had to sleep with my in the living room with the other electric heater that we had. It was about 55 degrees in our house.
thankfully the furnace was fixed today.

My furnace won’t turn OFF sometimes. So I have to smack it to get it to turn off. Luckily I catch it before it gets too hot in my apartment. Once I was sick and it ran and ran. It got up to like 85-90 degrees in my apartment. Poor rabbits were all stretched out and panting. I had to open the windows and put a fan on them in the middle of winter. lol

                          Thankfully you got yours fixed!
