Does anyone else’s bunny do this? Last night one of my cats was playing with a little plastic Easter Egg (the kind that opens to put a treat in) and it fell on the floor and broke open but was still attached at one end.  Olivia ran over to it, picked it up by  and ran around the living room for like 10 minutes with it in her mouth. She looked pretty proud of herself!  Unfortunetly, my camera battery was dead, I would have loved some pics. She also did this before with a little bunny-sized plastic tambourine I bought for her. Every night for about a week she would run around with it for a few minutes, and it made noise while she ran. It was so cute.  Bindi also did it with a crumpled up piece of paper. They look so hilarious; it makes me laugh out loud!

I’m trying to think about why they would do this in the wild because most things a bunny does is from instict. Do they ever gather food and carry it back to the burrow in the wild?

Hannah does this too! She’s like a little border collie.

She did it once with the Teach & Treat toy – there was a blue plastic thing she was supposed to lift off of the treat compartment and she grabbed it and ran around for 5 minutes. She’ll also carry her stuffy all over the cage, into the litter box, etc. Most recently she had a long strip of paper in her mouth and was eating it, so I walked over to take it away and she ran off with it! Hahah. Such silly rabbits.

The most annoying thing she carries is mouthfuls of hay – she’ll grab a mouthful in the cage and drag it out into the pen which is covered in carpet. This morning I had a nice pile of teeny little hay pees scattered on the carpet.

I was trying to think of why they would do this behavior too and I can’t come up with anything.

            Adorable
Merry always takes her apple in the afternoon and runs away with it to eat it somewhere else – reminds me of a puppy. She grabbed the corner of her blanket the other day and tried to run away with it (what an image!) but otherwise she’d rather throw things around that carrying them around.

I thought of another one – we have an old chewed up kleenex box out in the living room and last night she tried to pick it up and run off with it. It’s almost as big as her and really awkward, so she didn’t get far. Haha.

This is strictly a play response. Nothing more. Bunnies don’t carry food back to their warren nor is it any sort of survival skill mockery. Some rabbits just like running with things.

Eddie used to snatch mail off my coffee table and run off with it. All excited cause he did something naughty. LOL And he’d also snatch his treats (like an apple slice) and run off with it.

Yeah, when Olivia had the toys in her mouth, she just looked like she was saying “This is MINE!!!! I’m not sharing it!”

Thanks for the input Markbun. You seem to know a lot about bunny instincts. I want to learn more about it and about how bunnies live in the wild. I find it very interesting.

Jersey does this but with food not toys. She’ll do a lap of the room. It’s like a dog with a bone. :p She also often takes it to the litterbox.

Ringo does that with pens and highlighters! We are both law students so we constantly have a book and highlighter in hand….. until Ringo snatches it and hops all around the coffee table with it! Its funny but all my pens have bunny gnaw marks!

I think Mark’s right, it’s just play behavior because I swear Nikka and Rorschach find so much humor in snatching things from me and running around with them! haha. they do this with their treats because they’re greedy little buns, but sometimes when they’re out for playtime I’ll see them start chewing on a piece of paper, and when I reach over and say “no” they run away with it! hahaha. so funny. once rorschach tried to run away with a towel lol. I need to try and catch it on camera next time.

You know how we are always complaining about buying them toys they never play with? Well, Olivia is Playing with Toys!
                            Yea!!!! You’re lucky.

I want to see the movie.

That’s funny Pam because both of the toys she’s been running with (the egg and the tambourine) were bought at the dollarstore. Forget about those toys I spent a fortune on!

My bun is the same he doesn’t run around with toys but particular treats he will run in his cage, do a lap around the room before either eating it in the corner of his cage or under the table. It is the cutest thing I love giving him different treats just to see him running around.. He also honks. Happy bunny
