Next Wednesday, I’ll be getting an x-ray and exam done, and on Thursday, I will be getting my bottom wisdom teeth removed  I have impacted wisdoms on the bottom. On the left side of my mouth, the growth of the wisdom tooth has began to effect my molar  I was told because the wisdom is trying to make room, but is hurting and crowding my other teeth. Ugh. I may need a molar out

I had health insurance at my other job (that I quit, muehehe) but no dental. My dad had to pay out of pocket to my top wisdoms out, but since the bottom ones are impacted, I had to wait.

Now, my dad has me under his insurance.. which is.. WOW  Terrific  I didn’t know that insurance plans like this existed

Anyways, I called the dental service to ask what I am covered under, and the exam and procedure is 3/4 covered.  My face:  I had really bad insurance with my previous job. The deductible for medical was insane . I only owe a $50 deducible on my teeth procedure and 30% out of pocket.

I’m not looking forward to getting the bottom ones done. The receptionist pulled up my previous x-ray and said that I’ll likely need stitches . I got 2 days off of my work, so I have 5 days off to recover. I have been told that the bottom ones are the most painful ones to get done.

No horror stories please  but how long did it take for you to recover?

Good thing I’m making Chacha her condo today, so she gets more room in it while slave is passed out on the couch for a couple of hours.

        Helllllllllllloooooooooooo VICODIN

I had mine out at 16. They removed all 4 at once since 2 were already impacted and the other 2 would do the same. I refused to do it awake since I will hyperventilate, so they put me under.

It took about 5+ days for me to feel better, 2 to come out of the haze. As long as you take the giant tylenol they give you EVERY 5-6 HOURS then you will be okay. I did not use my painkillers as I don’t believe in them. I’m a tough girl : )

You will mostly sleep, to recover. Also, eat a LOT of freezepops. They were my live saver. They’re cold so they keep swelling down.

            YUM! And soup, eh?

I was given numbing shots last time, and I only felt the shots. After that, I didn’t feel a thing. I was looking into a tv, watching Rush Hour 3 It was a pleasant experience.. I can’t say that about too many dentists o_O

I had all 4 of mine out at once when I was 18. I was put under because they weren’t sure if they had to chip away some of my jaw bone to get the teeth out. That was because of another problem though and they didn’t have to do anything. I did have stitches. They aren’t bad. They usually use dissolvable ones now so you don’t even have to have them removed. I was uncomfortable for a few days but was back to work after 5.

Milkshakes with a spoon! Lots of soft foods. I wouldn’t recommend soup for the first few days. It will make you more sore.

Good luck! Wishing you a fast recovery. =)

Aw, don’t worry honey bun. It’s not so bad. I got all mine done years ago. I got to eat tons of Kraft mac n cheese because you can slurp it down without having to chew much LOL

                  You’ll be just fine : )

I had all 4 of mine extracted at 16 and had stitches with all 4. Mine were growing the wrong way so out they came. The last thing I remembered for a long while was the dental assistant putting an IV in my hand lol.

I forced myself to eat soft foods even though all I really wanted to do was eat soup and popsicles. The first couple of days I did the soup thing but it made my jaw really stiff and even harder to eat regular soft foods. So I just stuck with soft foods from that point.

I used my pain medication I am a HUGE whimp when it comes to mouth pain.

It took me a little over a week to recover and I was back to normal a little soreness but nothing bad.

Oh yeah I had dissolvable stitches, they were annoying once they really started to dissolve.

ice cream, smoothies, jello, pudding, anything nice and soft. I had lots of angel hair pasta cut up into little bits … just don’t use straws, or eat or drink anything too hot.

I had my stitches removed. You can’t hardly feel it. Nothing to worry about.

Soft foods are your friend, yogurt, pudding, scrambled eggs, ice cream, smoothies (good idea!), mashed potatoes, oatmeal.

I think I lost 5 lbs after I had my wisdom teeth removed! lol

I had my upper wisdom teeth removed a few years back concurrently with another oral surgery…funny thing was, I never took a single bit of pain medication after the surgery. I used to be really bad at swallowing pills back then; I took one look at the gigantic pain meds and thought no way! I’d rather endure the pain, lol.  Afterwards, it bothered me for a few days that it felt like I had something stuck in my teeth…I yanked at the thing to try to get it out and realized they were my stitches

All in all, not toooo bad of an experience..I’m sure you’ll be just fine!

Yeah, don’t worry Brit, it doesn’t hurt when stitches come out : )

To reiterate Monkey’s suggestion… don’t eat really hot stuff.

Here’s my drama of my FIRST and ONLY surgery: wisdom teeth! *Dun da dun!*

Just two years ago, three years this April I believe, I had it done. Didn’t want it. Wasn’t gonna have it. Had to. Dentists. None of mine had attempted to come in, although they were close to the gumline. Top two were straight, and would probably come in fine. Bottom two were both angled in towards my molars, if they tried to come in they’d hurt my molars. So if off to the oral surgeon. I begged to be put under, and they did (thank all disapproving bunnies). My top two came out so perfectly I didn’t need stitches in them, bottom two needed stitches, but the disolvable ones. In purple. ^-^ Fancy. Well my mom drove me home, and I basically fell asleep on the couch for two hours, then I watched a pooh bear movie (comfort) and snuggled with a blankie. Six hours after surgery started I really perked up then and started feeling my normal self. Look out for pain meds, take them on a good schedule and write it down as well. I ate spaghettios, applesauce, yogurt, oatmeal, the soft stuff that doesn’t need chewing. I was able to have some toast the next day I believe, but I chewed with my front teeth in small bites. Everything from there was good for me, except I got stiff jaw for two weeks and couldn’t open my mouth very far. My dentist said my oral surgeon did a perfect job, and come to read in a magazine a few months later my oral surgeon was named top oral surgeon in the STATE for that year! Talk about awesomeness. ^__^

I think I was 16 when I went to a dentist who said one was impacted. It was the only time I went under laughing gas, and was out. He did it in a chair, and when I woke up he was finishing up on the opposite side – turns out all 4 were impacted but not bothering me so he took them all out at once. Best thing he could have done for me. I was also still numb, so it didn’t hurt. Maybe a bit of an ache from having my mouth open all that time while under.

Anyway, all the suggestions above, ie. anything that can fit through a straw or wiggle on a spoon is edible.
Oh, must prepare you for one little side effect: you may get swollen chipmunk cheeks. They just puff up and turn pretty colors. Just wear a yellow scarf in a week to match your cheeks and you’ll be fine. Seriously, it didn’t hurt, but I looked kind of goofy for several days.

Want to hear a funny story?!
I went in to get my wisdom teeth out all four due to my mouth being “to small” hehe they didnt know me very well then I have a BIG mouth from what I’m told! lol
anyway I have dental spaztication! lol I HATE the dentist Im very picky with my teeth and take good care of them so I dont have to spend alot of time at the dentist! so they had to put me way under because of my fear. They gave me truth serum and laughing gas hehehehe lol
The last thing I remember was they asked me if I had a pet and then asked if I had a cat and me in my drunken stupor slurred out “hehehehe hahaha heheee you…. said… CAT!!! hahahaha” and I was out! lol

My set back to the surgery was they had to stretch my mouth so much to get back in there that I got a finger shaped bruises on my jaws and my muscles were stretched so tight that when I closed them and slept off the drugs my jaw muscles were banjo string tight! I could only open them wide enough to get a straw in! I had to cram bottle caps or spoons in to stretch the muscles! It was weird they said I was a rare case that had this happen. So open and close that mouth girl! stretch those muscles BEFORE the numbing wears off! lol Oh milk shakes and french fries were my best friend!

I need to have all four taken out, ive been putting it off but I guess my dentist will have to wait around 8 months to be able to get them out I HATE the dentist, im really scared of it, i almost cried last time my hubby made me go. So scary. The dentist told me the top 2 were impacted but they dont hurt, so ive been putting it off. whatever you do DO NOT got to youtube and put in wisdom teeth extraction, not nice trust you will have nightmares. That was a bad move on my behalf i really regret it now. Eventhough alot of people have told me its not as bad as it looks.

I have a fear of dentists. D: I need a cleaning, but since I didn’t have dental insurance, it was hard. Now I do.

Moz, I won’t look it up on youtube LOL! I have had mine in too long that that one of the impacted tooth is pushing one of my molars and causing pain As I said, I may need to get it taken out as well!

I had a very good experience at my dentist. It is the reason I’m going back to him. It was a very quick procedure. I’m sure it will be a little longer this time, since my wisdoms are half grown in.

He is a little pricey, but his care is well worth it

my wisdom teeth are all intact but my dentist and orthodontist said i dont really have to get it taken out. i hate the sound of the “sucking thingy” & drill dentists use so im glad i dont have to worry about it.

my cousin said it doesnt really hurt except for the numbing shot.

I only had the bottom wisdom teeth come in. And they came in perfectly fine, but I kept getting cavities in them, so my dentist recommended I get them removed. I went to an oral surgeon to be put under. The whole thing went fine cause I was put under. lol I didn’t have to have stitches cause they didn’t have to cut into the gums.

I can’t remember exactly, but I think after the first 2 days, I was fine. I had to be careful what I ate, but the pain wasn’t that bad or anything. I just remember having to swish my mouth with water when I started eating more solid foods cause it would get caught in the holes. And I was told to swish with warm salt water like 4 times a day or something to help with healing.

What I remember the most is I was at my mom’s afterward so she could keep an eye on me. I was laying on her couch, on my back, with my head propped up which is recommended. I had the pain killer in my system and dozed off. My mom was sitting at the end of the couch watching tv. Well, I snored but I startled myself and jumped! And my mom busted out laughing. LOL

I’m a wimp, so I had them put me out for mine. I had four, the lower right impacted my molar and really messed up the gums in that area. I also had a bit of a cocky dental surgeon, who said my overbite was ugly and I should have my jaw broken and reset so it would look right. I just blew him off on that suggestion. (rolls eyes)
He did put me under deep though, and when I finally woke up they had to watch me for awhile because I was so groggy it was like I was drunk. My sis-in-law and I were cracking jokes with me full of gauze pads in my mouth and laughing my butt off. The doc kept coming back in the room and glaring at us because I was supposed to be resting.
She drove me home and they just put me to bed. I was out for hours. I was lucky enough not to get dry socket (this is why you don’t use a straw or drink/eat anything hot for awhile) and my jaw returned to normal pretty quickly. I was still nursing my daughter at the time (she was 3 months old) so I had to wean her quickly because I didn’t want any of the drugs getting into her system.

Yeah…Vicodin is nice, but I can’t take it anymore. My body has grown allergic to it.
Seriously though, I am just loathe of dentists, for anything. I had one good one who saved my rotten molars when I was a kid, but haven’t found one I like since. And I swear I’d rather deal with chemo than have dental work done. I’m just twitchy about someone poking in my mouth. >.<

You’ll do fine though. So they took your top ones out before, but not your bottom ones, did I read that right? Odd. I guess they hadn’t erupted yet?
I’m ready to have my old capped molars pulled. The gum-line recedes as you age and now enough of the root area enamel is exposed that I feel all hot and cold right down to the jawbone. REALLY hurts. Teeth…meh, at my age I can start drinking all my meals! lmao!

Hey I get to go through wisdom extraction two more times, my kids need theirs out too! 0_o

Ahh the oral surgeon. I wish I wasn’t so familiar with them. Anyways I got my bottom impacted wisdoms out back in 2008 and I think about the 4th day I was eating anything I wanted. However, my jaw was stiff (I couldn’t open my mouth all the way) for about a week to 8 or 9 days after. So I ate softer foods for a lot of that time (not just soups, just stuff that didn’t require a lot of chewing) because my jaw would feel tired from chewing.

The stitches are like nothing . I’ve had regular stitches and the dissolving ones. Getting the normal ones taken out is painless. The dissolving ones are cool because they just disappear! Just keep in mind that if you end up with the dissolving ones you may start feeling the ends (they are soft!) so don’t panic, that just them dissolving .

Mimz, I didn’t have dental insurance, so my dad had to pay out of pocket. If I had gotten all out, it would have cost an astonishing $1400!!!!! O_o;; I have dental insurance now, so it shouldn’t be soo bad.

Yeah, I think my extraction was somewhere between 2 and 5 grand. Luckily I had a substantial living trust at the time to cover it…which is all but gone now.
That was with the advent of those landscape xrays, and of course I “had” to have one done because otherwise the doc couldn’t guarantee a good surgery. Grrr! My dentist here does the same thing…anything they can pad the bill with. I’m not looking forward to what it’s going to cost for my kids. I haven’t had any insurance for about 30 years now.

I will keep good thoughts and send some pre-surgery ‘easy pull’ and healing vibes your way!

That’s how I feel right now. LOL I have a mildly infected tooth that a root canal specialist couldn’t find the canal cause my tooth had calcified. So once the infection basically abscesses, they will do surgery. It’s like…if health problems are going to be complicated and need a bunch of specialized tests, etc, it’s gonna be me who has them. It’s just all insane. Our healthcare system. What needs to be done is that a cap needs to be placed on how much medical professionals can charge for everything. America is the only country that I know of that has put medical professionals on this pedestal where they can charge whatever they want for services. In other countries, they are treated as just regular jobs. Ok, I’m off my soapbox now. lol
