I have two bunnies. They are 6 months apart. The oldest is 3 years old and the youngest is 2.5 years old. They are both male and neutered. They are both litter trained. They both have a seperate house each with its own litter pan. They are not “bound” to their house. They are free roaming house bunnies. I limit them to the living room where we are all the time. The oldest is good. He poops and pees in his litter box. The youngest has just started mabye about 4 months now, to only poop in front of his house. He pees in his litter box (thank god). He is right in front of it, jump in and poop. No, he poops in front of it.

I did notice that they are both using the same litter box. They used to use both, but now its the one. Why? Is it a competition of whos territory it is? could it be since they both use the same box, only one bunny owns the box so the other has to use the floor? But there is another box in the other house. I dont understand him, i pick up the poops and put it in the litter box, or i throw them away. I tell him not to poop there but he continues.

i bought some spray that is suppose to discourage them from pooping on the floor. it only works when i do it. once its all dried up, he goes back to pooping there.

how can i make him poop in his box. he knows to do it. i dont know why he changed his behavior.

He’s currently trying to let the other bunny know that that house is his. It might be a retaliation for the same litter box usage. Luckily, the poops are easy to pick up with a dust buster but he will hopefully outgrow it.

Thanks it very well could be. I see that when I put fresh litter in the pan, one of them gets there first, smells it and jumps in does his business and jumps out. Then the other one decides to use it too. I would like them to use both pans. Any suggestions on how I can get them to use two pans rather than one. Both house are next to each other. The other one hardly gets any use. Ya, luckily the poops are easy to pick up.

Maybe you can soak up the pee on the floor with a paper towel and set it in the other pan, so that bunny recognizes his own smell in it and claims that litter pan. Be sure the other bunny’s scent is in the first pan, but he’s already seen to it.
