        Hi

We just got a brand new 5 month old american bunny named Babs from the Humane Society.  We have pine chippings in her cage to hop around on and pellets for her potty.

I am having trouble putting the box where she is supposed to go potty in the right spot. Right now I have 2 boxes in the cage and she still goes to the corner and pees in the pine.

Should I take out the pine shavings and maybe put in a rug like the humane society had her cage? Does anyone have any tips for me.

use a bunch of little blankets instead of all-over bedding. makes taking them out separately to clean a lot easier.

if you have bedding in the entire cage, bunbun may interpret the whole place as approved for a litterbox.
pellets (like yesterdays news) are great for containing the pee and its smell.

Pine shavings aren’t good for rabbits as well. http://www.rabbit.org/care/shavings.html

I think the rug idea is good, as long as she doesn’t eat it.

Welcome and congratulations on your new bunny!

With rugs, some bunnies will pee on anything soft and absorbant so if you find she takes to doing that, don’t be afraid to leave the floor bare. Lots of rabbits like lying on the bare floor.
There are LOTS of products sold for rabbits (like some bedding) that are actually not good for them or uneccessary. It takes a bit of navigating! But forums like these can help with any questions you may have.

Also, check out the litter training tiips under BUNNY INFO heading at the top of the page if you haven’t already.

The best bedding for potty training is something absorbent on the bottom (like Yesterday’s News or Carefresh) and a layer of hay on top.
