Yesterday we had a stupid inspection.   So sick of this .   We got our notice last week.   HE came in never asked about pets.

He saw me outside today and called me over.  He was finishing the rest of the apartments today.

I was asked how many rabbits I have.   I told him 1 and I am watchign one for a friend.   They are out of town and will pick her up this weekend.

He told me we cant have rabbits.  That the mgmt was discussing it and decided no more rabbits.

Gosh I was in tears after that.  I called the lady said I could have him when I moved in.  She told me to call another lady who works here on the property.

I called my mom first.  she said mention depression and you will get depressed if you lose him.  Also to go see the Dr. and ask him to write up a report about my condition.  All good ideas

So I called the lady here and she said no no rabbits.  I started crying and told her I had him since we moved n and it was ok and I suffer from depression and don’t want to go in the hospital again.   HE is all I have.  I don’t want to have to move out.  Do I either part with Cotton or move out?

The lady listened.   Discussed with someone else and said if I am willing to pay 300 pet deposit I can keep him.   I told her i would.  Thank God.  I had no where to go except my Moms and she won’t let Fouad stay with us together til we get a place.

Also I am trying to print out stuff about litter box training and them being lagomorphs not rodents.  I spent an hour unjamming the printer and trying to get it to print.   I got 2 more well 4 more things to print and it won’t print.  Says it is offline and it isn’t.

Good grief.   I hate printers.  Monsterous things.  Temperamental things. I should eat then try again. Oh so much for me getting Kindle next month.   Won’t be for 3 months til I can get it.  Hey if I can keep Cotton I say it is well worth it.  I can wait.

OH and the paper they redid pet policy and no rodents.  Thats why I want the lagomorph thing. I can tell them about the website when I return the papers tomorrow or Friday  but I would prefer to hand them an already printed paper.  They may not go look it up.   Too much trouble for them.  Understandable.

OH and my vet is mailing a letter tomorrow stating he is a neutered male rabbit and they dont’ need vaccinations.   The office here asked for that.     The lady was surprised you can spay n neuter them.  So I explained all that and the litterbox n so forth.  She had no clue.  Lots of people don’t      AS long as I keep Cotton I don’t care.

Oh, goodness, bunnytowne! I held my breath reading this… thinking it might have a bad ending but you really did it! You convinced them to allow the rabbits. That’s really hard to accomplish.

I’m glad things seem like they are going to work out with this situation. Wish you didn’t have to go through the added stress. You have always seemed like a genuinely nice person to me, but life throws you a lot of curveballs anyway!

(((Hugs))) BT. I hope they settle this amicably. Can they allow pets then just change the rules like that? Surely you have some legal standing with this. Be very careful regarding Ruby. It seems they are suspicious.  Also, read the vets letter before it goes to management, be sure they’re only talking about Cotton.
If you’re now paying a pet deposit, make sure you get a copy of the written policy.  You never know, it might even tell you that you can have 2 pets!

What site are you referring them to? House Rabbit Society?

Please keep us posted. Fingers, toes and all bunny ears are crossed here for you.

I really hate that people think so terribly of rabbits. Like we would just let them run rampant throughout the house, peeing and destroying everything in site.

How did she not know they could be spayed/neutered? All animals can that I know of. Plus, rabbits have been domestic pets for longer than 5 years. I wish more people were educated.

In any case, I’m really glad you get to keep Cotton. I hope everything else works out for you!

Thank  you everyone for your support.    I finally got Pinky and the printer to talk again and got the stuff printed out.

The vet is sending the letter to me.    Yes I get to read it first.

I guess I can delay paying the wireless bill til March  I will talk to them n see.   Tht way I can pay all of Cottons 300

A few people parted with their pets this is very expensie.  But this is  the going rate.   I am suprised low income housing would charge so much.  We renew the lease in Feb or April   so they can change it at that time.   They raised the move in fee too.   Gosh.

I do feel better.   Now that I got all the stuff printed out

I am referring them to Houserabbitsociety.org  or is it .com I better go see.  All this stress lately.  I was not going to part with Cotton.

I sure wish there was somewhere you could go to get away from all this hassle, BT. I could not imagine giving my furbabies up because someone wants to change my rental agreement on a whim like that. Most likely they are looking to vacate tenants so they can get someone in there who will pay them more for the place. Greed in this world is rampant.
At any rate, you are in my prayers. Please keep yourself and Cotton Boo and The Ravishing Ruby safe and well. (((((((((hugs))))))))

                          Thanks JG    .org

I cut out the stuff that had BB addy on it.   Don’t want them coming here n finding Ruby n Cotton on my profile.

When that guy came tuesday he never asked about pets.   Someone had to have said something to him as he went to the other apartments.  Got some mean people in here.

I know one mean lady.  Rabbits are rodents she says.   Damn cruel people.

oh no! I would be mortified if they told me I couldn’t keep my buns with here with me. I do agree though, that you should have some legal standing because your contract when you moved in didn’t have any clause about pets. They can’t just change that in the middle of your lease.

luckily my landlord has been very understanding and said there’s been a few tenants that had bunnies. it’s good to point out that they are fixed, and caged, and that they do not make any noise [unlike cats and dogs].

Ask your medical doctor to write you a “prescription” for a therapy animal (Cotton).  I have friends that have a dog in a typical no dog apartment complex since the husband has seizures and the dr wrote him a note for a therapy animal.  This dog is in no way specially trained.  It was just a loophole they found.  I have heard of similiar prescriptions/notes written for depression also.

katnip you are right about companion animals.   Someone on Bunspace mentioned his situation.  HE took the rabbit everywhere with him.   I think he suffered from anxiety.

He takes the Dr. letter with him.   Walmart had refused to let him in.  The mgr at that.  HE called the police and the officer said the paper is legal and by law they have to let him in with his rabbit.   He had no more problems after that.

I went this morning but they want the vet paper about his neuter b4 taking the info from me  so it doesn’t get lost.

I showed them the printouts I made.  The one lady was no way get outta here.

The other lady was like oh my I never knew this.   Gosh that big pmt tho.   I am going to pay all of it  early feb.  The internet provider I will talk to and they will work with me I know.  I never been late with them.

Now for the vet paper to come.

This is such a blessing that the people in charge are willing to listen, learn and explore new things.  They are aware animals do damage and rabbits chew baseboards furniture etc.   I told her I am blessed with a good rabbit he doesn’t do that.   I get him toys he chews those.  He loves the toys.  Dogs can do a lot of damage too.   I have to remind them of that.

Fortunately Pinky and the printer cooperated after all.   Just had to turn them off for a bit.  Then the glitch went away.

Sending my DR. a letter is a good idea.  I just saw him monday.  I will do that. If necessary I can get an appmnt.

OH by the way  they were impressed that there is a website about house rabbits.   This is such a blessing I have to say.  Not all people are as cooperative and open to learning new things like this.

Sounds like you are getting it all worked out!

I’m sure it’s not that these people in charge don’t like rabbits but like you stated they aren’t really educated about them. It’s true that some rabbits are chewers and can damage homes but some dogs and cats can as well. Heck alot of people don’t take care of their own property.

What a relief! That’s so horrible that they tried to change your agreement after you’d already been living there with Cotton for so long. I’m so glad they were willing to work it out with you!
