Noticed a few poll threads and thought I’d add one too.
Who has been enslaved by these charming little buggers the longest? ![]()
Stormy is my first house rabbit and he’s 6 going on 7. As long as I’m able, I don’t think I will ever be “bun-less”.
We got Otto in April of 2009, so coming up on two years with buns! We got Hannah in April of 2010, so we’ll have had her for one year at the point. I guess we like getting new bunnies in April. Maybe the Easter thing gets to me? Haha
DH and I agreed we’d never be bun-less either. He was skeptical about getting Otto, but after we had him for a few months DH said we needed to always have a bunny around.
I got my first bun, Xiao Pang in 2003 and had her for two years before I came back to Canada and had to leave her with a friend of mine in China. Now, it’s been just under three years since I got my Calypso guy (It will be three years on March 4th.) Bunnies are an important part of my life and help make me who I am.
I find it hard to believe that anyone will ever own a rabbit and then chose to not own a rabbit… rabbit people seem to be rabbit people for life. (:
I got my first rabbit, Mr. Bunny, in November, 2008. I can’t imagine not having bunnies now!

I got my first rabbit 8 years ago. After he passed, there was a short time (a couple years) before we got another rabbit. I had just started college and we had a toddler and had recently moved, so I understand that sometimes life gets in the way and having a rabbit (or any pet) might not be possible or ideal. I’m not sure if I will always have rabbits. We really, really, really want a dog (or dogs) and I know how difficult that can be to have those two species cohabitate peacefully. Who knows what life will bring?

)
I’d love to have a dog too but my passion for rabbits outweighs the dog by too much. Something about them; I’m caught in the web of bunnydome.
In my situation, I need to take my husband’s wishes into consideration also. I’d love to have both rabbits and dogs, but if it won’t work for whatever reason, after mine have passed, I might wait to get another rabbit in favor of a dog or two. Who knows where we’ll be in a year or five years? He’s been very patient and kind with the bunnies and he likes them a lot, but he’s certainly not “gung-ho” like I am. He’d love a big dog to wrestle around with. Let’s say we move into the “perfect house” in a year, we might have that dream dog much sooner than we are expecting!
No one and no animal will ever “bump” our bunnies from their place in our home, I’m just thinking out loud for after they have passed over the bridge. I will say tho, ever since my Benny passed, almost every dog I see, I am ready to take home with me today.
A big thing with me too is that I LOVE all the terrier breeds and in most situations they don’t get on well with small animals. And Stormy HATES dogs. If I have a friend’s dog over, he just has to hear them sniffing and will get all frozen with fear. If I could have one without upsetting my rabbits I would but if I can’t have both, I’d rather have bunnies. My mom is actually getting a West Highland Terrier puppy tonight and I’m so excited because I will get to take the dog out for walks and I plan on doing agility class with her. Almost as good as my own dog without the disapproval from Storm.
Well, I love rabbits but I think once mine are gone I will go rabbit less. I won’t get a dog, cat, guinea pig, bird or anything else either, just want to have a bit more freedom than I have with pets.
21 years since my first rabbit. When I say I’ve had them all my life, I mean all my life. My mom had to cage Pumpkin when I was born because she didn’t trust me with a house rabbit as a baby.
Edited to add: I forgot to answer the question, I got our first, Pringles 4 years ago next month.
I love all my pets too, but have decided to let the herd thin down naturally as time goes along and I’m getting older.
Right now I have an 18 yr deaf and blind dog needing meds and care, 18 year old cat who sometimes has senile bouts and forgets where to pee (bought a steamcleaner just to deal with this), 14 yr old cat, 8 year old cat
2 guinea pigs (5 & 3 years old) I took from the grandkids because they weren’t taking care of them
buns: Pringles-4 yrs, Daisy-4 yrs, Toby 6+ (best guess), and Charlie-1 yr.
In the last year and half I lost my other 3 seniors Simba, Hershey and Lola
I love them all and enjoy taking care of them and I’ll give them the best home I can for all their lives. After that I think I would like to have only one cat and a pair of free range buns (gotta have buns) so I could also short-term foster or give some elderly buns a home.
I got Pacey in Oct. 2008 so a little over 2 years. I don’t think I will ever be rabbit-less or pet-less for that matter. I will almost certainly always have more than one dog and rabbits.
I am at my limit for now with the mini zoo I have in my house lol.
I’ve had Dutchess just barely past the six months mark.
Holy schmoly time goes by fast! She’ll be a year old in less than a month O.O *scampers off to buy prezzies for b-day*
I’ve had Mr. Bun-Bun just over 6 months now. I’ve always been a cat person but I think maybe deep-down I was always a bunny person and didn’t know it. I love being able to share a lot of my vegetarian diet with my pet
I am one of those people who could easily be an animal hoarder, so I actively avoid the temptation of thinking about other animals. In fact, the only situation in the past 12 years where I’ve been exposed to a foster animal that needed a home was with Mr. Bun-Bun
I would certainly live with more than 3 animals if I had the space and money, but I can’t.
I have thought about it since one of my cats has congestive heart failure and will most likely die soon (could be awhile though, she seems to be doing fine lately.) I think at that point I would just stick with the one bunny and one cat. Who knows. Now I think I will always live with both bunnies and cats. I prefer their company to human company, usually.
I’ve had Koucha for a year ![]()
I had my first rabbit about 20 years ago…but he was not a house rabbit…so I guess that doesn’t count. I was quite young and Mom and Dad made the decisions then! I only had him a few years…
My husband and I got Oreo in November 2009 right after we got married, when she was only a little over 2 months old…and when we realized how incredible bunnies can be we just HAD to get a second… We got Mr. Blu in March 2010, and he’ll be a year old at the end of this month
So we’re just over a year with house rabbits… and I can’t imagine life without them!!!
I prefer their company to human company, usually.
Ditto that!!!

I have had house bunnies for 4 delightful years now. Won’t be without one if I can help it. They are interesting cute curious sweet clean quiet.
Dogs too much work walking them all the time. Doing stairs with my knee too frequently ouch.
Cats I love cats. Birds I had so many birds for years. No more birds. I dont’ like the mess they make and they really do have an odor. That pooping from the air I can’t take lol. I like poop not to have to fall from somewhere above and land who knows where.
I like convenient poop that has a relatively short travel time from the pet to the litterbox. Where you can see it. lol
I love bunnies. Always been a bunny person just didn’t remember til 4 years ago. Had buns when I was a young un in 4H. I loved them b4 that my aunt had some. She lived right across the street with her horse cochise a skunk descented n rabbits.
