Sooooo a little update is in order. I’m superstitious and didn’t want to post at all until all this was over. I know this is health related but I’m mostly sharing and venting over stress-not asking questions so I’m posting in the lounge.

So first a Nooty update. I made an appt for Noot next week and an appt for Mikey this week because Mikey has a little sore on his boy parts for reasons unknown and Noot hasn’t been eating well. When Noot spit out his cranberries on Monday I swapped the two and took Noot first.

We had Noots lower incisors trimmed (because his top had broken last exam and aren’t doing much and he’s not eating well the last five days) which was insane-every time she got a good position he started chewing and jerking and then his lip popped up. Poor dude. But we got it done. We are also running an agressive course of meds for the tilt which is bad on bad days and good on good days. His nystigmas is bad lately. I’m worried that he’d need surgery as if it’s in the bulla. Ditto his eye isn’t great so we are continuing drops and I’ve been doing the tear gel. *sigh* AND she referred me to a board certified vet dentist so we can do tooth surgery or see what’s up-maybe his molars are bothering him -she couldn’t get a good look today as he was just chewing away at the light thingy (that’s the technical term). She could do the surgery but she thinks she’d take too long and at his age, it’s best to do quickly.

Good news-he’s still well for his age and his issues. Also she’s totally into gp speuters, so we’re lining Norman up for a neuter soon. Glad-those piggies are grossly endowed

Ok and my heart aches hugely becasue….*sigh*  Mandy(the dog!)… and this has been ongoing…quick background because it plays a part-she had radiation for cancer and it has set her up for recurrent ear infections (which cause vestibular syndrome type issues and look just like the tumor which was cerebellar)…

…she had a terrible ear infection before christmas and had surgery twice (again!!) for it. Then her tooth abscessed and she had to have it removed (I noticed her eye swelling and we went to the e vet to find out it was the tooth-then it was tooth removal)-she went to the vet eight times in six days that week. Then her ear infection was so bad we saw the specialist and we consulted about a TECA BO-which is a total ear canal ablation and bulla ectomy (SP??? uh yeah that was my attempt at the spelling)…so thankfully we all thought the risks were worth it -it is risky-one study I read 86% of dogs have complications BUT they are usually minor and not painful. The specialist to do the surgery had awards out the you know what so I was mostly comfy but still worried sick ya know?  So she had the surgery Tuesday and Monday night we had the traditional every family member over just in case dinner (You don’t want to know how many of those we’ve had) and then we hung out tuesday night empty handed as she stayed at the vet then. THey typically stay three days after…but Mandy woke at 4 am tuesday night and did her husky howl until 2 pm and they finally called and made my parents take her home. She looks bad-half her head is shaved (though-like my vet said to us today, it’s not her first bad haircut ) -kind of like those hairless cats but with stitches -really upsetting.

I have to take heart that the surgeon said she was amazing for her age and breed (12 husky mix) not even considering radiation and a year of prendisone use and 3 of on and off prendisone use. OH and recovered quicker and better then usual. Usual are cocker spaniels with infections due to allergies-not geriatric huskies with radiation damaged ears… I’m jumping for joy but also knackered from stress.

I am *knocking on wood* BIG TIME-but before she originally got sick and we found months later that it was cancer, my mom went to a psychic with friends and the psychic said you have a dog and she’s not ok…my mom said she’d just been to the vet and was fine…but the psychic said-no there is something wrong-take her back to the vet. She’ll be fine and live to 18, but she’s very sick now. And within a week Mandy had symptoms that eventually had her diagnosed as having cancer. (She was given 2 months to 2 years with the treatment and that was four years ago….so we thought of course what a loonie…but still….) so now I’m starting to wonder if we really will get another six years with my amazing sweet Mandy. I can hope if I’m knocking on wood with the other hand.

Sorry for the long post-now onto the fun part-piccies!!!

Ok and some lovely pictures of my beloved Mandy (yes she’s the ‘rents dog, but we got her when I was 16, and I left home at 23 and she slept in my bed every night…so she’s my dog too!)

These are pictures I took the July long weekend when we went dry camping with my parents. This was Mandy’s first trip off leash(she has a rope on but no ones holding it!)-and first trip with another dog (I worked the last year to get her comfy with Mikey-she’s NEVER been ok with other dogs and my techniques are working I’d say!)

Mandy is of course the dark beautiful Husky mutt!

          No tenseness-just fine together

What a beautiful girl (I love the ‘bat dog’ ears!!!), I’m going with the 6 more years!
What a tough time for you will all this, so much stress but your doing so much for each of them. Wishing everyone speedy recoveries.

I love your pictures, where about was that? Mandy looks like she’s smiling in those pictures
We’ve not done much camping for the last two years, where we used to almost all the time. I’m jelous!

Sorry to hear about the troubles you’ve been having with your furry family.

When is Noot going to see the new vet? Big vibes for him (((((((NOOT)))))

I know how hard it is when the family dog starts getting old. I went through this too with my Mom’s Shih-Tzu who passed away a couple of summers ago at age 16 (I got her in middle school and she stayed with Mom when I moved out). It’s so sad to see them starting to have so many problems. We suspected cancer before we put her down. We knew it was time. Lots of vibes for your beautiful dog too (((((((MANDY)))))

If she does live to 18, lets hope the next 6 years are trouble free. She’s been through a lot!

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Canada has such beautiful landscapes.

Thanks guys for all the well wishes! She went back to the vet friday(our vet though) to have her sutures checked as there was a lot of bruisng but they said all is well. I’m so excited because it’s a surgery that can cause tons of problems -not big ones, but they are common and plentiful and it looks like we’re through the woods on that-no face paralysis, vestibular syndrome etc. Fantastic. She’s refusing to eat anything but duck and salmon lol I think they’ll never get her back on a kibble after this winter

It’s Lake Abraham-and it’s actually still in Alberta but close to BC. It’s crown land-I just found out about it last year and researched-but you can camp on government land anywhere you want! So I looked into the areas you can camp and researched and picked that Forest land use zone, then chose the area from google maps satellite (I wanted to camp near a lake so Mikey could swim) and I chose Lake Abraham. We had no idea what to expect when we went, but as you can see other people were there! Not crowded at all of course, and gorgeous but not totally isolated which made me feel safer-when we went back the second time, we got my parents to go too (not least of all because their motorhome has a bathroom and shower and can go offgrid as well) so we had some amenities the second go round. But it’s cool-it’s real camping, no campsites, no bathrooms, no power no nothing -AND the dogs can go offleash

When is Noot going to see the new vet? Big vibes for him (((((((NOOT)))))

Not entirely sure, he’s going to call when he gets the referral and set up an appt for a consultation. I’m not sure I want to do surgery, but I’d definitely like pre-surgery bloodwork first and some rads so we can also see what’s going on, if anything, in his bulla…But my vet really likes the surgeon so I’ll take her faith in him.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Canada has such beautiful landscapes.

That’s so funny-I’ve had several friends go to Australia and never come back lol I think it’s prettier where you are!! I meant to ask-are you anywhere near all that terrible flooding? I was worried when I saw it on the news

Thanks. I’m in SOuth Australia. The States affected badly are Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria.  We’ve had recent flooding but not on this scale. I’m affected as much as anyone watching and hearing the stories coming out though.  :'(
