Peppy’s usually a pretty nice bun…she has her naughty times, but we thought we had her behavior largely under control…

This past week or so, she’s all of a sudden being very destructively active.  It’s not even one specific project that she’s intent on (i.e. destroying one particular thing) but it’s more like…

        *chewing carpet*

        “NO!”

*runs across the room to chew desk leg*

        “NO!”

*chooses another corner to chew carpet*

        “NO!”

*honks/stomps at us and moves to yet another part of the room to pull at the carpet*

When it gets to a point that we can’t get anything done because we have to keep watching her and telling her no, we put her back in her cage…only for her to go *CHEW CHEW CHEW* nonstop on the cage.  Is she just bored? Lonely? Or just plain mischievous? She gets plenty of attention and pets, and plenty of time to run around; whenever somebody is in the room (which is pretty much all day recently as school hasn’t started back up yet) she gets to bounce around the whole room.  We thought it might be because she wanted something to fill her little bun tummy, but even after her pellets and greens, with a full stock of water and hay, she’s being a destructive little furball…any suggestions for the sudden behavior change?

Has Peppy been spayed yet? That sounds a lot like my girl was between 6 months and about a year… some of it is adolescence which can persist even after spaying.

I think it’s definitely an age related behavior. She’s going through her “terrible two’s”.

I’m guessing Peppy is about 10-11 months old now, and was spayed in early October…if it’s due to age, I guess we’re in for a fun few months!

Smokey went through something like that during this past summer. She turned 1 in March, so summer was about the 1.5 year mark for her. She did nothing BUT destroy the carpet. Telling her no or anything had no effect on her. It was bad. She seems like since summertime she’s calmed down and doesn’t go after the carpet anymore, but that was easily the most frustrating time period for her. ;(

Yup my Blu does that, he has days where he’s great and others where he wants to chew EVERYTHING! It’s possible Peppy is looking for attention too… Sometimes when Blu’s doing this it’s when I’m not playing with him, and when I go and sit with him he is content just getting head rubs (and he’s not a snuggle-bun in the least). Although this isn’t always the case…but they do remind me a lot of kids, they act out for attention. And Blu LOVES getting in to trouble the minute I leave the room he’s in (he hangs in the room where my parents watching tv at night, so I pop in and out while I hang with my other bun in the other room)…it’s like he knows I’m not watching and he can be bad!!
