I went into Franz’s room earlier after I got back from playing in the snow and he jumped onto the side of the gate and climbed it like a ladder with ease and was about to jump off 50 inches and I snatched him up just before!! I guess I have to modify my NIC gate so it doesnt have holes showing… But then he could just climb his cage which is the same height. I’m frustrated cause I worked so hard on it… I don’t want Franz to climb and get his leg caught

I think I might order some coroplast and tie it to the gate to make it slippery. But that will still leave the entire condo still open for climbing up and jumping over… Can anyone help me come up with a solution?

As of now I’m not using the gate and just closing the door… I wanted to be able to see him and interact with him always instead of closing the door on him cause I miss him

How is he out and about? With rabbits with that kind of climbing and jumping ability, the safest route is typically to move towards free range. Is this an option so he wouldn’t have to be barricaded by grids or gates?

I have gotten sheets of acrylic at hardware stores that are clear, which I used to stand in front of my bookcases to prevent bunny taste testing, but could see through. I don’t know if this is the best solution, but if it’s dark coroplast on the sides vs. clear acrylic (it can be thick, like 1/8″ or more so sturdy) you might want to try that. You can usually buy them in very large sheets, like 40×40″, and have them cut it for you. Might want an electric screwdriver to put holes in it to tie with zip ties to the cage bars. Just an idea, though possibly not the best solution. anyone else?

He was originally given the living room, kitchen, and bunny room but he pees in the kitchen and on the couch. My boyfriend and I decided it was really best to keep him in his own room when he’s unsupervised. We’re planning on giving him the run of the house if he proves he can handle himself with his behavior. He’s not understanding the peeing thing so we’re waiting til after he gets neutered to give him more space. He also leaves a lot of poop everywhere he walks. At the bunny sitters, Franz’s pen was covered in turds and the other bunnies’ pens were immaculate… People keep telling me the pee is good enough to train but the turds are really bad. I wish he could be with me all the time D:

The acrylic sounds better than coroplast. Thanks for the idea.

OK, Beka, you are making my heart skip; I have two acrobats like Franz and the thought of free-ranging them… oh dear! I think I would find them on the ceiling…

For climbers at out Shelter we would clip a sheet to the top of their cage making a roof.
I have an escape artist, and I had to build a roof on their NIC cage, i just made it with more NIC’s and some long rods to hold it from caving in.

Cactus, at the bunny sitters it was a new place as well, so it could have been territorial marking, especially with him being unneutered.

I don’t keep him in a cage I let him have run of the room because he’s pretty good about it.

This morning… my boyfriend found him inside an NIC Cube on top of his cage!!! LOL He took pic of it I’ll have to post them. He climbed into this NIC cube and ripped open his papaya and a bag of botanical hay and went to town lol! He was just sitting in the empty cube next to it like everything was normal… XD

                        Oh Franz…
