We have a ton of wild rabbits around here (mixed in are a handful of loose domestic ones)  And since the snow’s so deep and they cant get to my lavender anymore,  i’ve been putting out some pellets for the poor things, when i check my girls at night i take out pellets and fill up my small dishes around the yard, and by morning their empty. I havent seen the culprits actually eating them, but i’ve seen them hopping around before i started putting out pellets, and well, the pellets are gone so some bun’s been eating them.

My father in law has a squirrel that hangs around that he feeds. closest thing that man will ever have to a pet lol. he’s not much of an animal lover, but he enjoys the antics of this particular squirrel. lol

AS much as it kills me not to-I mean I WANT to…I want to build a little rabbit gazebo with hay and yummies…it’s just NOT right. They are wild animals and messing with their food (i.e. you are not going to be there forever helping their population) it’s wrong. When hunters say they are keeping deer from starving they are wrong (they are taking the strongest bigest deer out of the gene pool). As a vegetarian I respect someone who knows where their food is coming from-it’s not a population help-wild populations mantain. If they starve the next year their numbers are less and the predators decline. Doing anything to mess with ecosystem homeostasis is WRONG. But …yeah I feel bad. There a lots of wild buns here and I want to take them in and care for them. HAr-I want to take in the wild coyotes and care for them-I feel bad that they don’t have a couch and a momma and filet mignon. It’s SAD. But they are wild not domesticated animals and I won’t

I left a piece of lettuce and a small carrot that was growing on our table garden next to a bunny nest for the mother or for the babies when they were able to but they never ate it. I think they prefer our grass and weeds more

My parents used to feed the birds and squirrels. One day we looked out of the window and there was a huge rat sitting out there eating the birdseed that had dropped from the feeders! We had rats for a while and had to call an exterminator. Apparently the rats kicked the chipmunks out of their burrows and took over. After that, they never fed the animals again. Since then, I’ve been very wary about feeding wildlife because I’m not sure I want all of the “undesirable” wildlife to show up.

I would never hunt, but I have to say that hunting deer isn’t always an evil. Where I’m from in western PA there is a ridiculous over population of deer. My parents have a doe give birth in their backyard every year now because there’s just nowhere else for the deer to go (and they don’t have a big yard or live in the country). There just aren’t any predators anymore and the massive overpopulation is a real issue. No matter how much I hate hunting I don’t really have an answer to  what to do about the deer.

My uncle’s all hunt, moose caribou, and deer. There are lots of deer around there but unlike most hunters they dont kill the big ones if they can help it.

My mom feeds birds and animals outside. She doesn’t even use the bird feeder anymore, she just pours the seed straight on the ground. There are quite a few bunnies that come over and eat the seed. At my house, we mostly just feed the squirrels bread heels and whatnot. I haven’t seen too many bunnies around lately. We used to put bird seed in a bowl outside and there was a rabbit that would knock it over to eat the seed.
