This is an English angora, Cinderella, she’s 1 yr old

She is pet house bunny and a wool bunny. I went to a spinners convention because I knew there might be rabbits, and this nice woman who is a co worker of my boyfriend’s mom (who works at a textile museum), showed me how to get wool off the bunny. I thought it would be mean like some people say, and the woman said that some a-holes pull out the fur when it’s not ready. It’s super gentle and she let me do it as well! It felt so weird but the bunny is just happy getti g petted and you just hold the base of the hair like you would to brush it, and use your fingertips to pull on the top and it slides out. The bunny doesn’t even notice and seems to like it a lot. It doesn’t make the bunny look funny or like someone stole his fur either lol. I was very skeptical at first but the practice has my seal of approval when done by a pet owner and a hobbyist spinner. I have a video of me getting a lesson if anyone wants to see . She just brushes most of the shedding out with a comb and keeps it which seems like the easiest way to go. Franz’s hair isn’t loose yet but I get a bunch when I comb him now I’m getting a spinning wheel soon as I’ve been learning to spin for awhile now. Hopefully Franz is happy with it otherwise I will leave him be

That’s really interesting.  I was curious about that because people always ask me about it because of my girls who are english angora (pictured below Princess Butter cup, right, and Zatanna, left).  Thanks for the info and good luck with your spinning!

OMG your bunnies are sooooooo cute! I actually picked an english angora first like your little grey/ black one (PB?) but this woman reserved him before I could ask. I love my Franz bunny so much so it turned out ok!

I never felt comfortable tugging his fur out and he didn’t like it so I just brush him with the furminator for long haired cats and it’s so gentle, I tried it on my hair first lol, and it really gets all the wool and leaves the guard hair. I just put it all in a bag. I don’t have too much yet but I really saved it all! Have you tried the furminator? I’ve tried probably 7 or 8 different brushes, and I ONLY use that one now. They’re really expensive if you get one… like $35+ but it’s the only brush you need! If you hold a mat, then secure the skin, you can kind of rake up against your fingers, and it totally rakes out the mats! I have a brush with razors on it that shreds the mats, but this works better cause it doesn’t cut them. I’m interested in hearing what you do for problem fur!

Franz is on his second coat now, and it’s not that soft surprisingly, and just recently underneath it on the same hair it grew light grey underneath the dark brown! It’s so weird looking cause he used to be grey!

i’d love to see more pics of franz; he’s a french angora, right? rue’s a jersey wolly. i’ve been saving his wool when i brush him. i don’t have much, yet. i knit, and have always wanted to learn to spin. i’m on the fence about getting an english angora, though. i want one for the wool, and they are wicked cute, but that much wool is intimidating! rue’s breeder has a new litter of english angoras, and i am so tempted! there are two chocolate babies that i’m in love with!

He’s a satin angora. They look just like french angora’s except they have the least amount of guard hair out of all the angora’s, and their wool is the softest- 18 microns which is one of the softest furs in the world. Angoras are a lot of work… I think it gets easier after the baby coat, but I brushed Franz every day… and he still got mats! I had to cut a few out around his shoulders, but it actually made the fur around it mat more! His fur doesn’t tangle at all right now… very strange, but I don’t know how long it will last! If you go to my photobucket I have a billion pics of Franz! It’s hard to post photos here because the max size is sooo small, and they don’t list it… I would have to resize all my photos just for the binkybunny album. Here’s my photobucket:

                Mostly baby pics: s682.photobucket.com/albums/vv190/C…z%20Bunny/

Newer pics and lots of videos: s682.photobucket.com/albums/vv190/C…franz2011/

Some of the pics are just random pictures of other cute bunnies but Franz is easy to pick out!

With all the fur I’ve been getting off of Wooly lately, you would think I could have knitted a sweater by now! His fur pulls out as well and he seems to shed along a line like a chinchilla does. I think it would be so neat to have an angora, but I’m sure it would be even a worse hair nightmare than what I already have with Wooly.

Princess Buttercup (PB) is the tan one and Zatanna (Z) is the black and grey one.  That’s funny because they aren’t actually the bunnies I intended to adopt at first either.  I was going to originally only get one really big (and I mean he was big at only 6 months he was atleast 6 or 7 pounds lol) who looked a lot like Z but fluffier.  But I ended up with the two girls instead which is fine because they have somebody to play with while I’m at school/work and they are absolutely hilarious.

I do have the furminator but I got it more to take fur off of other things and not the bunnies because the lady who ran the shelter had a lot of angoras and that’s what she used to clean up the furniture and stuff b/c it worked better than a lint roller.  I’ll have to try it out a mat next time.  I give them haircuts on a regular basis and the mats that they get are usually in places where they can just be cut out without looking like they are missing  a chunk of fur.  Lol.  I use a cat comb that similar to the one they sell in the binkybunny store but it has this ergonomic grip which makes comfortable to hold and use.

I originally didn’t save the hair because that really wasn’t something I was interested in, I just thought they were super cute!  I saved the hair from their last cuts because my bf’s grandma said she’ll do something with it so we’ll see.

Yeah both PB and Z have lighter undercoats.  Z’s is multicolored ranging from black to almost white in places and PB is all white underneath.  (I put up pics so you could see the fur difference.)  I always leave the mop top and the ears though because its absolutely adorable.

I am a beginning knitter, and I am trying to convince my husband that it would be a good idea to get a couple of angoras and grow my own yarn. Sadly, he is not falling for it.

Oh that’s super easy to fix.  Just take him and let him hold one.  He’ll be hooked from then on.  Lol

OMG they’re so adorable. Yeah, anyone will fall in love with english angoras if they see them in person! They’re so whimsical and they’re bred to be lap animals which is what sold me. Franz is definitely how the breeder said he would be!

That is partially how we ended up with a rabbit in the first place. We were looking for a new snake for my birthday (small snake mind you, and yes I love my snakes.) Instead fell in love with a cute little english spot rabbit. He was instanly in love with her and considers her to be a “daddy’s girl”. He loves animals as much as I do, but we literally can’t have anymore pets at the moment. Already well past the legal maximum in my city. Which is dumb. If your pets are well cared for and have proper vet care and vaccinations with no neighbor complaints, why should I be told how many critters can reside in my home.
