I love my quartet; but I realized that they were taking up an enormous amount of time and I needed a compromise so I would keep enjoying them. I decided that I would exercise them in pairs, instead of lugging the entire quartet upstairs, and I for one like this new routine. This means, however, that they take turns: one day it’s the black mini rexes’ turn, the next day Deirdra’s and Neigey’s. I know rabbits need their daily exercise but their common pen is big and has accessories to make them move, plus because of the number of rabbits in my pen it is never dull. I needed this compromise, and this is the first time I put my own wish into the equation too when planning their regimen. I believe they get more exercise actually because I bring them up first thing in the a.m. because it’s not a big deal to fetch two, I don’t even need a box or anything.

That is a good idea. Do you plan to rotate the pairings?

Can’t. — Deirdra’s and Neigey’s bond is the tricky one. Deirdra is basically not allowed anywhere without Neigey there too. That way, I know she isn’t going to throw another territorial tantrum.

so Deirdra likes nigey? I thought those were the two that weren’t getting along?

They did have A LOT of problems after Mops died and then Duffy joined but they are bonded again. I don’t know if Deirdra “likes” Neigey… who knows? She grooms him, she chases him… it’s complicated!

And they are okay going back in the pen together after? (I would just be so worried about breaking the bond among the 4 of them.)

Yes, they reunite happily. The only fragile bond is Deirdra/Neigey. Everybunny else is easy. Sometimes I just take Deirdra out for a few hours and return her later to the boys, there is never a problem. It’s when Deirdra is left with one or more of the boys and Neigey gets separated that she gives him a hard time upon his return. As long as Neigey sticks with Deirdra at all times — no problems.

The two of them look so funny together since one is much larger than the other. I LOVE the tire hay rack. I just may have to try that myself : D And I love how calm your dog is around the bunnies!

Rabbitpam, if you are reading this: you were the one to remind me of that tire toy that was buried in my stuff somewhere…. when you posted that I should have four of everything like tires for a car I thought I should get three more… what do you think? j/k

Still think you should get 3 more. Neigey might need something a bit smaller, though, like a training wheel.

oh good… this one is the biggest they had. the smaller ones are cheap. Will have to get some for their ‘car’.

Great job-I can’t imagine a quartet-so hard!! I think you shouldn’t feel guilty doing seperate exercise-you should consider yourself!! Its tough bonding and it’s tough on us emotionally when they aren’t nice to each other and the work is hard! Your buns are totally spoiled rotten so this is not a hardship at all!!

That sounds so much like Rupert and Kahlua (maybe it’s a BIG bunny thing lol) Rupert LOVES kahlua-grooming just prooves it. But he’ll chase her if he thinks she’s going to get more craisins or something like that But yeah the pairs together for exercise sounds like a great routine
