I just swabbed out Lolli’s ears cause she keeps shaking her head and scratching them.  And there wasn’t a lot of gunk. But the gunk was a dark yellow.  This indicates possible infection right?

Ok…I’ll have to scrounge up the money. Hopefully I’ll get my disability money soon.

i’m not 100% sure on that infection part though, i would assume, if she’s scratching that she’s possibly have mites, and scratching can cause scratches in her ears that could be infected..

My Theory.. i’m no vet though

Oh I know! But I’m fairly certain something’s going on with her ears since she keeps scratching and shaking her head. But overall, they look fine. Cause I keep inspecting them and trying to look down them. lol So it’s obviously something in her actual ear.

But someone can tell me she’s fine, that would be great. lol I know, I know….wishful thinking.

lol most ear mites are like fleas… one of the easy problems to fix. Honestly.. she’s not going to be damaged in anyway.

                  Any Better?

lol Yeah. It’s just stressful for me cause I have no money again. She’s been scratching her ears for a few months now, so she’ll be fine waiting just a little longer. Hopefully I can get her to the vet by the end of the month.

Yes. I would get her to a vet so the problem doesn’t get worse and you end up paying even more! I totally understand that you can’t afford it right now, but I hope you can get her in soon. Hope you get her in and she is back to normal soon!

It is looking like she has the same symptoms of what Chacha had. She had a ear yeast infection: scratching her ears, shaking her head. A swab test will likely need to be done.

The vet will likely have to look at the debris under a microscope.  Ear mites are not usually visible to the naked eye- unless sometimes you can see general movement in bad cases (Yeck!).  And in the case of infection the vet will look to determine if it is yeast (fungal) or a bacterial infection to determine what medicine will work to cure the infection.

A few months is a long time and it can be getting worse untreated. Ask your vet if she can bill you later for an immediate appointment, so you know you can budget for it. Also, you can ask if you can make a partial payment now and the rest of the bill later. I’d hate to see it get hard to treat if left too long. The meds will cost, but will be worth it if it can be cleared up completely. Also you can ask the vet to let you know if there is any preventative care and maintenance you can do with her regularly, depending on what it is, so you can avoid a recurrence.

AAARRGGGG!!!! Bleep bleep bleep bleep. (bad words) lol Yeah, I’m not happy. Got a letter from Metlife. Yeah, so they didn’t get all the information they needed so now it’s going to take another 30 days for them to make a decision on my long term disability. Serenity NOW! My stress level has just skyrocketed. So….I have to see how much I can get from my dad to live on for the month and then see if I can get her to vet with some of that money. I am so sick of this bleep.

I haven’t noticed Lolli shaking her head or scratching at her ears very much today. But I know that’s not a sign that nothing is wrong. Sigh indeed.

Do her ears have a smell to them? Sounds yucky but try swabbing her ears and then checking if there is a smell. Normal bunny ears have no smell but any smell is a sure sign of infection. Although no smell doesn’t necessarily mean no infection as Bindi has had many infections and had no smell or itchy ears. You can always take a peek in her ears with a small flashlight (I use a keychain flashlight to check all my bunnies’ ears weekly). Check for redness which is also a sign of infection. A wax blockage can also cause itching and shaking.

Just be careful to swab no further into the ear than you can see- otherwise you could possibly rupture the ear drum which is painful and takes a long time to heal and needs additional meds and care.

I swabbed her ears. All I do is try to get into the folds, right where it starts down into the actual ear. That’s where any gunk seems to be. I smelled it and it didn’t smell. lol Since I cleaned them a little, she doesn’t seem as itchy. I don’t know. Sigh.

At the rate stupid insurance is going, I’ll have any tax refund before I get money from them. And I haven’t even gotten my w2 yet. Sigh.
