We go to a petstore in another city.   We saw it and just stopped in looking for pellets.

There were 2 buns there.  One a long hair looked like a satin or a french angora.  Most likely french.   Was bigger than Ruby and was supposed to be under 3 months .    Well  those nails i have never seen nails so long on a rabbit b4.   And matts in her hair.  This rabbit could not be under 3 months.   Not with nails that long.

The lady had the nerve to tell me lionheads are 8-10 lbs.      pffft.   I wanted so bad to take that rabbit home and get her fixed up.

Was told it was a male.  I checked it’s privates and it looked like a female to me.  A slit instead of a circle.   Plus they had it seperated from the other rabbit cuz they fought.   All this tells me this poor bunny had to be over 3 months.   The fighting the length of the nails.

The lady kept saying she had to cut the matts out.   No kidding poor thing.  I came so close to walking out the door with that bunny.   Plus when I got home Cotton didn’t attack me.  Had to have been a female.

I walked out without her.   No room 3 buns etc etc.   Too much work and hubby said no

I feel so bad for her though.   I neglected to check the nails on the other rabbit.

OH the lady said it would be 8-10 lbs and was a dwarf angora mix.       Dwarf 8-10 lbs   is this lady stupid or what

I also told her lionheads are about 4 lbs.  Show standard.  Plus I know a breeder personally she said whatever.   You moron.

when we go back to that city i may get her.    then clean her up n rehome her    i pray she gets a great home this week instead

BT, the store person might be open to you doing the nails and grooming her there. I know of another member who did this.

If she sees it as you doing a favour she might be more open to discussing rabbit care then.  Purchasing the bunny will just open up a spot for her to get another in and who knows if the next will end up in same poor state. The cycle continues…

You know I mentioned just that to Fouad.   I should have asked to trim it’s nails and cut the matts out.    He agreed.

I told him next time we go to that city and pass by there lets stop n see if she will let me.  Hopefully on Friday I can do this.  Yes I will ask Fouad for us to leave early so I can do this.   Great idea JG

You are right I don’t want to continue the cycle and I don’t need another bunny.

There are good people out there it will find a home I am sure.

Also I wonder if a baby bunnies nails can grow that long b4 3 months .  Maybe the breeder didn’t trim them b4 delivering.  I wihs I had checked the other rabbits.

1 1/2 inches.  I never seen nails that long on a rabbit  b4

I really hope she lets you clean her up, she must be so miserable. I hope she finds a good home. I’ve given up with pet store people, they drive me INSANE.

I have done this before to many rabbits when I see their nails are overgrown, in fact I carry a pair of nail clippers and a grooming brush with me now as store are normally happy for me to do this but will not give me the supplies.

It’s sad to see how pet stores keep their rabbits. I went into a petstore in a town I used to live in on a summer day where it was 90F+ degrees outside and there were 2 baby bunnies about 3-4 months old, long haired, in a large empty aquarium with pine bedding on the bottom. There was no air conditioning in the store and they just lay on their sides looking miserable.

I don’t understand how pet stores can get away with things like this.

I hear myself repeating this over and over again.. WHERE ARE THE ANIMAL RIGHTS LAWS?!?!

most of what these places keep them is in not proper housing, our humane socioty for example!! AQUARIUMS!!! WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING THESE PEOPLE WHO COME IN TO LOOK AT ADOPTABLE ANIMALS!!?!!? That its OK to keep them in class containers!? Using PINE bedding, and NO exercise. They dont help!! The animals go to homes that wont look after them properly anyways!!

Sometimes they’re open to taking some info sheets. I’ve done this before and plan to take some to a new pet store that’s opened near me. They didn’t have any small animals when I was there but had some of those wooden wall box style “habitats” ready to be filled. We have a free booklet that gives some tips for new rabbit owners. The store will prob take them and pass them onto new owners since it doesn’t cost them anything.
