I’m pretty bored and still on break from school (for another week! Why is my winter vacation 5 weeks long ?) So I decided to clobber together a ramble-and-pictures update on my buns with a little bit of everything! Sorry about the length…I seem to keep on rambling and rambling, heh.

First, Peppy!  After reading about how cage chewing can ruin bunny teeth, my boyfriend and I had been trying to get her to stop gnawing on her cage constantly.  Initially the spray bottle method worked for a while…then, she started ignoring it and all we ended up with was a very soggy and still very naughty bun .  What seems to be working recently is a small tin filled with a few coins that makes a scary noise to reinforce the verbal command “no!”.  However, Peppy has been giving us a bit of her own attitude lately…

Peppy likes to wake my boyfriend up at 8AM sharp EVERY morning for her breakfast by chewing on her cage loudly. The problem is, we’re tired students and don’t like to get out of bed until as close to noon as possible (going to class is optional right?).  To try to curb this behavior, he tells her “no!” and gives the tin a small shake.  But these past few days, when he says “no!” she’ll just honk and stomp right back at him…we’ve got a little bunny girl with an attitude who talks right back when we try to discipline her

Also, the other day, he accidentally fell asleep in the afternoon with his glasses on…when he woke up, he found (after a blind search) that Peppy had stolen the glasses right off his face and taken them into her cage as a chew toy!

“Me? Attitude? I’m a little angel!”

And now for Remi, my “at-home” bun!

My family adoped her about 2 months ago now, and she is doing great! When we first got her, she was very skittish and refused to let anybody touch her, though she wasn’t aggressive at all.  These days, she’ll accept pets about 50% of the time, which is an amazing improvement.  A few days ago, I even had the rare honor of being licked by Remi for the first time!! She is quite the nosy bun, and always has to show up and poke her wiggling nose in anything that is going on.

The other day, my mom remarked to me how “adorable” it was that Remi liked to run circles around a her…she had no idea it was bunny mating behavior .  After that, I called up the vet and promptly scheduled her for a spay on Monday. Hopefully she’ll come out fine, and her habit of marking everything with pee will subside too..heh.

I’ve been making some Remi home improvements too! Over break, I decided to expand her store-bought cage a little with some NIC grids to give her a second floor and more room to run around.  Also, I noticed one day that the wall decorations my parents recently bought came in the perfect little cardboard boxes, so I repurposed them to make a new hay trough!

I got a little camera-happy earlier this afternoon, so I asked Remi if she would pose for a few shots for me…

        “Oh jeez, don’t take a picture of my face…I’m a little camera-shy!”

“Is it safe to come out now?”

“Okay okay fine, I’ll be cute and strike a few poses for you.”

“But you know that I still disapprove…”

Phew…that’s it for now, everybunny! Thanks for reading my novel!

Hahah, your bunny was circling your mom? I’m glad you scheduled her spay how old is she again?
My rabbit has circled my legs a few times and honked at me (and she is spayed.. silly girl).

PEPPY!!!!!!!!!!! What color are his eyes?

Where did you get that box for the hay racK?

That’s so smart what you did with the boxes-into-hayrack and I also never thought about attaching that kind of cage to a grid pen setup by lifting one of the sides up like that. Very ingenious! Good job

Your bunnies are ADORABLE! My rabbit does the same shaking chewing thing with his cage too… I’ll try the tin solution. He’s responding to no better but when he’s doing the cage bar chewing thing he goes into the obsessive mode he almost looks possessed LOL

Maryann does the same thing to me at 7:10am every morning with cage chewing/rattling for her food. Rabbits love routine. I have found that the easiest thing to do to quiet her down is to stumble out of bed, drop in a handful of pellets and then go back to bed. Works best for all involved that way…

When we got Remi the day before Thanksgiving, somebody said she was 5-6 months, and somebody else said 6-7 months, sooo I’m gonna guess she’s about 8 months old now, just in time for a spay!  I’ve caught Peppy humping a few times even though she was spayed a few months ago, huhhh. Oh, and she has nice light brown eyes

The boxes are from ikea…it’s a pot thing that is supposed to be hung from a rail I think (iheartlinen.typepad.com/i_heart_lin…tion_2.jpg). I love finding things to repurpose too! I have to give my mom credit for the idea of expanding the cage like that…I was initially thinking of completely building a new one but hey, why not use what you already have right?

Otti, let me know how the tin works…I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s just a matter of time before Peppy becomes sensitized to it too.  I’m probably going to have to start stocking up on airhorns or dog whistles etc. soon, sigh.  Disciplining Peppy is like a constant arms race!

MarkBun, we definitely do that “okay here’s some food, now let me sleep!!” thing too, heh.  But we’re trying to curb cage-chewing behavior in general, just not in the mornings, ever since somebody on binkybunny wrote about a bunny who had lost incisors due to excessive cage-chewing

Peppy and Remi apologize for any injuries that may be incurred from admiring their adorable countenances…however, they ask that viewers refer to “too much cuteness” disclaimer in the bunny viewing contract!

I actually downloaded a noise-making app on iphone a while back. It has different big red buttons on one screen that make different loud noises LOL Was intending on using it to distract Sammy from unwanted behavior but completely forgot about it. He’s totally in for it tonight LOL Mwa ha ha

Wow Peppy, so from IKEA? I’ll be going there sometime next month. I have a pink plastic bag holder that I use for hay. Chacha will sometimes use it, but I think a box would be nice and fun! Plus, SHE CAN CHEW IT UP

Hahaha, Peppy might hump because well.. she is showing that she is dominant

                                    Such cuties!

I have that same cage. And it is great in that you can fold the cage part down to store and…apparently lift a side to expand it. lol I ended up taking the wire door off as mine were jumping over it. Then as they used an entire cage bottom as a litter box, I just did away with the top part.

Yes, HE…I took Remi to the vet for a spay today, and they called me back to say they’d be doing a neuter instead!

Hehe, well, Remi may get bigger. HE has long ears like my Chacha does. Chacha is about 3.5 pounds. She has really long limbs compared to the true Nethies.

Hehe, Remi is a boy! Were you taken aback on that?

I love otters. Their little markings are what make them unique

I love your bunnies! Your Peppy reminds me of Olivia (not the cage chewing but the total brat, honking and stomping when you tell her no). Olivia will also haul anything at close range into her cage. One time she got hold of a roll of paper towels…what a mess.

Those ear wash pics of Remi were just too much adorable. If he gets bunny-napped it’s your own fault.
