I have a newly adopted 2 month old bunny. I’ve only had her for a week now and she’s already very sweet and friendly with me, but today I was playing with her and thought she may be interested in some bells. At frist she seemed really curious about them because she practically charged right at me to see them, but then she just went nuts! She was running around the room and finally started thumping and making these grunting sounds, I thought maybe at first she was just playing (because I’ve seen cats and dogs do some pretty nutzo stuff when excited) but then she ran and hid under the bed and hid. I felt really bad about scaring her but at the same time it’s like… dude they’re just bells! Any body else seen this? Know why she’s so freaked out?

Neither one of mine like bells. My theory is that maybe it’s too high pitched. I don’t really know. Neither one ever acted that way. Perhaps it was a new sound and it scared her.

Rabbits have sensitive hearing, so it may have startled her. The thumping indicates displeasure or a warning of danger. She’d probably prefer toys that she could chew on or toss, rather than something that made noise.

Well they are prey animals, unlike what we’re used to of the cat/dog variety so you’ll likely continue to be a little suprised at some things like that. I’d just put the bells away and not worry about it As for why…well…could be that they were loud, or just sharp or ? No matter though unless you have bells everywhere or something Other sounds I’ve had issues with are the vacuum (At first-they all get used to it) and sizzling in frying pan-we’re not sure if it’s the smell or sound but that usually freaks out my Rupert. Like Beka said she may prefer something like a phone book to shred or even some already shredded paper (most bunny slaves own paper shredders aka toy makers) or some toilet paper rolls to throw around and chew
