What are some things that you would like to do one day? Or what are some things that peak your interest? This is a way to get to know each other, or new things about each other

For me, I love the mystery of cancer. I want to read everything and know everything. It is a big mystery to me. It is one big puzzle that scientists have not completely figured out. I read this book last year:

I am interested in knowing the complete history of cancer and how it started. I’m information hungry

I bought this book as a Xmas gift to myself.. It is VERY interesting to me!
        http://www.amazon.com/Immortal-Life-Henrie…ref=sr_1_1

Before I am 30, I would love to travel to Europe. My dad was in the coast guard and was stationed in Greece when he was my age. He was there for 2 years and ran many marathons. He still has the photographs that were taken and it gives me goosebumps – seeing the history. My mom’s maiden name comes from England, so England is a place that I’d love to go to as well. Eating yummy smelling (I’m like a rabbit, I follo my nose if it smells good!) and seeing and touching (I was one of those kids that touched EVERYTHING) places of historic meaning totally psyches me

I would like to learn how to swim  .. I don’t know how to  I’m not very coordinated with things like that, but I would like to give it a shot

        I can’t think of anything else.. !!

I’d like to try playing a harp. I think that they’re beautiful instruments. I’d also like to try belly dancing. Seems interesting, and not as hard on the feet/legs as ballet.

I’d also love to try making scented candles. I love candles, and I’d love to try making special candles for myself and gifts for my family.

Oh, and I want to try to get in a large adults’ choir. I’m quite sick of singing in a crappy church choir. >.<

My attention span is short and easily intrrupted, so i am interested in everything until something new comes around LOL

I am taking Western horse back riding lessons right now, it interests me because I’ve never worked with cow horses, I’ve been learning so much and love it. Kinda neat when you can learn more about something u already know, but in a different way.

Yesterday i went to the Body World exhibit. Very cool, learned some new cool stuff about our body, and didn’t get to creeped out :p

Fluffy, from what I know ballet is very hard on one’s body. But is a nice art.. same with opera singers! I admire them!

Andi, I want to see the body exhibit too I love all that stuff

I’d love to get my Italian back! I was almost fluent when Stan and I were abroad for school, but I’m afraid I’ve lost a lot of it over the years. I used to have hours-long conversations with my roommates who spoke no English, and it was a joy!

I would also love to get back to the piano and violin one of these days. I used to play all the time, and now it seems like I don’t ever have the time. But it’s so wonderful to sit down at an instrument and make music.

Another big one… I want so badly to be a mother! We’re not quite ready yet, and we don’t yet have the funds, but I long to be a mother, and I hope that we can have a baby in a few years.

                Great idea for a thread : D

I want to travel…. everywhere haha. greece is also at the top of my list!

I want to give ballroom dancing a shot. I’ve already conquered hip hop and salsa.

I’m also interested in health aspects, and my main goal in life is to create and improve public health programs =D

I’d like to see both the U.K. and Japan. But I kind of think it’s not going to happen. 1) I hate flying, and 2) No real savings left for me to travel with anyway after sending son to college.
I would also like to learn to read/write Japanese. I used to want to learn Russian when I was in high school, simply because it was only offered as a class option to those who were of a certain grade point average. (Could use it here, lots of stuff is written in Russian!) That and things like Calculus/Trigonometry. (And of course now I can’t balance my checkbook.)  It’s a vain thing I suppose, to want knowledge of something just for the sake of having the knowledge, but back then I guess I looked at it more as a challenge for my brain.

lol…Now my brain is challenged enough just making sure I get all my typos before I post…*gigglesnort*

Brittany I envy you. I wanted to be a nurse when I was little. I would still love to go into the health field, but like Doc Martin, I can’t handle the sight of blood. :X
BTW, have you seen the book “The Emperor of All Maladies:A Biography of Cancer”? I heard the doctor/author speak on public radio and he sounded very interesting.

Neat thread!! We’re total nerds at my house, always reading and trying to learn new things

Working on learning spanish more fluently right now. I can really read it, because we have to take years of french here in canada and they are so similar, but I’d like to be fluent fluent in a language.

I’m liking to read about all things old, which suprises me because I’ve always hated history and though I’ve been to many many hisotrical sites while young (my family travels a lot) I was never interested. But now I am-loving reading about ancient civilizations and ruins…

Also I’ve always been interested in cryptozoology-not the big foot stuff so much, but more like crazy extinct animals like my fav-thylacine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thylacine (check youtube for real videos’ of the last one) and other stuff like that….like so called feral children (usually abused disabled children abandoned-which highlights critical learning periods and is just striking and interesting) like Genie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genie_(feral_child)

I love all things water-extinct and current sea creatures, especially the crazy ones like the barreleye a fish with a see through head! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29354875/ns/technology_and_science-science/

And of course my long time passion of behavior and learning theory -can’t get enough. It’s really getting fun now with Mikey because he’s starting to learn things quicker (he was painfully slow at first, very shut down from over punishment, and had actually missed many critical learning periods….to boot had parvo as a pup so he may have some slowness from brain damage) and we’ve just entered into the advanced trick relm and he can solve simple puzzles. Always cool what you can teach animals, and let them discover on their own

Hear, hear! I was a French Literature major in college (and a tri-state French grammar competition finalist.  Who knew they had such things? LOL) but now I barely remember it!

I’m a musician, too, and although I stopped playing in ’06 I still think I’d be able to pick it back up.  But even with all the musical training I’ve had throughout my life, I still don’t know how to sing!  I can play instruments in tune – I can read music and play it – but for the life of me I can’t do the same with my voice.

I’ve been interested in wine for a few years now (since my Wines class in college). I get a wine magazine and love reading about trends, how it’s being made, where it’s being made, etc. And, of course, trying new wines! I love that wine brings together beautiful places, people, nature, history, and modern manufacturing techniques. My degree is in chemical engineering and I’ve worked in manufacturing for 4 years, so learning about how things are made is fascinating to me. I love visiting places that wines are made too – you really taste things differently when you visit the place they were originally made (I think this goes for food as well as wine).

For some weird reason I like 19th century British literature. I’ve read all of Jane Austen and am working through Dickens (I think I only have 4 books left!) Once I finish Dickens I think I’ll have to find another author to focus on – maybe Wilkie Collins. I do read other books in between because this genre can be hard to read at times (some books fly by while others take a lot of concentration). The more I read, though, the easier they are to read and the more I get the subtle sense of humor and really enjoy them. I love the complicated word play and, especially in Dickens, the quirky ridiculous characters.

I guess that goes hand in hand with the interest I’ve always had in England and Wales. I actually took Welsh in college (it was only offered for one semester) and took Old English as well. I’d like to get out my Welsh textbook and dvds and see if I can remember some of it. I’ll definitely have to brush up on my pronunciation at the very least if we make a trip out there in the next few years! I did get to go to England once on a business trip and it was wonderful!

I’m interested in animal training. I’ve worked with the bunnies, but I’m excited to have a dog of my own to put a lot of the things I’ve learned to the test. I’d love to compete in some obedience classes.

Horses! I rode for many years growing up and I really want to get back into it. Right now we’re saving for a house so I agreed to skip lessons in order to save, but once we have a house I hope I can find a good place to ride. I’ve taken some lessons on and off the past few years and I’ve learned that my confidence is much lower as an adult than as a kid – being on a horse doesn’t scare me, but jumping sure can! I get much more anxious now even over small jumps than I ever did as a kid. I don’t know if I’ll ever own a horse of my own since it’s incredibly expensive to keep them here, but I hope I can partially lease one some day and be able to ride a few days a week.

eta: Oh my goodness – sorry that was so long!

I had to respond to MB’s post, Gaelic is incredibly hard, both to write and speak. I had an ‘uncle’ (friends of the family were often called aunt or uncle) who spoke it but wouldn’t do so unless you wheedled him into it. It’s such a beautiful language!

K&K, speaking of almost extinct or extinct animals, have you ever seen pix of the South American Vizcacha? It looks like a bunny and a chinchilla mixed into one. I guess they’re in Chile, I found this out during the miners’ ordeal there. I will have to find the link to the pix I copied.
