I’m super worried here. I just woke up late, and went to give the bunnies a treat (I fed them earlier) and some hay. Zelda just sat there. wouldn’t take a treat, wouldn’t even push it away. Won’t eat hay, or take hay from me. I caught her and she just sat there, no struggling, which is usual. I noticed on one of her paws, that almost an entire claw (the claw at the very end) is missing.  when i touched the little bit that remained she jumped  and ran.

The vet isn’t open, what can I do? If it isn’t her claw, then what could it be?

I hate when these things happen over the holidays.

Honestly if it isn’t her paw, there is too much stuff it could be to really speculate.

Do you have some critical care you can syringe feed her until you can get her into a vet?

          Vibes to Zelda.

No. I’ve never even thought of that!  where could I get it in a rush?

I think the only place you can get it is from a vet. can you get smithicone? ( I think thats how you spelll it)

If you cannot get critical care, here are some links to pellet slurries you can hand feed as well:

It’s important to keep something in her guts to keep her gut going and if she is in pain, she will most likely not eat.

Please keep us updated on Zelda.

I would also try calling your vet in case there’s a message on her machine stating who to call in case of emergency. If there isn’t, check your yellow pages for vets listed for exotics, and see if there’s a 24 hour animal hospital. Even if they don’t have an exotics hospital, you can call the ones that are open and ask if anyone is experienced with rabbits. If she’s in pain from the broken nail, it might be treatable. I don’t know if it’s affected her eating or not, but it’s a good idea to find a vet that’s open for emergencies tonight and tomorrow if things don’t improve or get worse. You can call now and have the number handy as you feed her a slurry as Sarita directed. I hope by the time I write this that she’s showing some improvement.

I got her to an emergency vet. She had some sort of intestinal bacteria they think (i’m forgetting the name) her tummy was making strange noises, so they gave me some medicine drops to give her for the week. They did a thorough checkup and she looks good, just her stomach was gassy.

That’s great that you’ve been to a vet and gotten some treatment. Intestinal trouble needs to be looked at right away. Now hopefully you’ll both feel better over the next few days.

Much better now. She’s eating a little bit, but the vet said she was glad we got her in so quickly. I’m glad I did too!
