There was talk of starting this thread, so here you go! This is a good place for present talk, picture sharing, and the like. I know some people are excited, some people are stressed, and some people are spoiling their bunnies! Let’s hear about it!

I was thinking of starting a thread too! LOL…
I’m wondering what is the ‘thing’ that makes it feel like the holidays for you?

One of my friends says it’s not Xmas till she has eaten a candy cane, a butter tart and drank some egg nog, then she knows the holidays are here. My Co-woker says buying the first gift.

I like Xmas cards, though I’m a bummer this year and not sent any
I love the smell of a tree in the house (Apparently PitStop disagrees and feels the tatse of the tree is more important).

Is anyone travelling for the Holidays?
I’m having Xmas day at my house for the FIRST time, and cooking a Turkey on my own for my FIRST time too! Mom’s staying with us and will be helping em though LOL, she’s a pro so i have a good teacher

Starting to do some Christmas cooking definately makes it feel like Christmas. I love Christmas but I haven’t had that sense of enjoyment yet this year. My brother and Dad have had some major setbacks on the farm over the last month and I think that’s put a damper on things for me. Probably goes back to my childhood and the harvest coinciding with Christmas.  Even though my sibling and I are adults and moved away,  how things are there are still important to us.

Also, my not having done any shopping yet may be causing a wee bit of stress.  Must get of BB forums and  do that!

I’m sure my mood will change once the family gathers on Christmas Day. Seeing the kid’s excitment is always fun.

Sounds like all of you are ready for X-Mas

My boyfriend and I exchanged one present each tonight. I got him a San Francisco Giants Snuggie. He got me a red/pink stethoscope I tested it out.. stethoscopes aren’t every comfortable  I’ll get used to it!! My boyfriend said all stethoscopes aren’t comfortable.. lol. He is an Athletic Trainer Major, so he has to use it on occasion.

I asked my dad for a gift certificate for a salon. I need a pedicure  My feet are gross!  I don’t usually pamper myself.. I don’t do it often, but I need nice soft feet!!!

I’ll be going to my boyfriend’s place for X-Mas eve. His half sister and her husband will be there. They wil be there for the day, along with their newborn baby boy. From what I hear, he is LITERALLY a big boy .. he was 10 pounds at birth

On Xmas, I’ll be going to my uncle’s place.

                  I’m so sleepy right now

I’m taking Christmas day off work. My parents are coming over for the big lunch, and then later we have to go to carls parents for tea. Then everyone is coming back to our place for a swim. I’m super looking forward to it. First day off in 6 months!!!!
But because all my food suppliers are closed for 2 weeks I had to order mass quantities of food. I hope I have enough for the shop for the next few weeks!!!

I would love to see everyone’s decorationns if you have pictures!  Christmas trees, menorahs, you name it!

Here is our setup, which is a little squished but we like it.   Momo is at the bottom of the picture checking things out and seeing if anything is edible.

Aw….Momo. Hope there is one for her there!

I cannot believe it’s the 23rd today! I always say “I can’t believe it’s Christmas” or “It doesn’t feel like Christmas” but especially this year. For the last 3 days we’ve been having a storm called a Nor’Easterner and it’s bad! Major flooding, downed power lines, businesses closed, etc. It’s very wet and extreme high winds. Not very Christmasy weather. I like a White Christmas. I can only remember one (a few years ago) where we had no snow.

I have so much left to do. I’m embroidering gifts and I’m still not done, haven’t wrapped a thing, have to make chocolates. And here I am on BB!

It’s always stressful but I really love Christmas. I love spending the whole day with family, especially my little nieces and nephew. They are so much fun on Christmas.

I have pics of my decs and I will post them when my computer will let me.

oooo lpt… heard all about the nasty weather you’ve been getting.  yikes.  ontario has been hit hard with snow but for some reason k-w has been spared so i can’t complain.  only enough snow to be considered a white christmas.

i was out getting gift certs at the mall theater and then to the bay to get some of those famous red canada mitts and was in and out unbelievably quickly.  weird huh?  one last gift to wrap tonight and i’m ready to get festive!!!  so excited this year… like a little kid!!!  bring on the merriment & cheer

lizzie thats a beautiful set up you have there!  here’s a wide shot of my tree with the dog standing guard

and my hall table with poinsettia…

and funny christmas jokes for those of you who are feeling stressed and need a wee giggle (i left out the risqué ones… is the language against forum rules?)

Last night I took a couple photos on my phone to share, two are the Stockings i had made for my Bunnies, when i had just 4
A friend was making them and all proceeds went to our shelter, so it was a mice Xmas present

If you ever wondered how PitStop lives…. lol this is his ‘house’… the left corner under that table is his bed and a litter box, out front his food and toys.

PitStops delicious Tree LOL… (I tried to get litter box #2 in there as well LOL) Nice Bunny fence around the tree, if you can see there are hardly any branches along the bottom, it looks so nciely pruned LOL

I didn’t put much of my Xmas decorations up this year, been kind of busy/lazy.
Tonight I’ll bake gingerbread and clean my house, as tomorrow i celebrate Xmas eve with my Dad, his G/F and my brother then pick up two bunnies for the holidays LOL

OH, speaking of animals needing homes for Xmas. I’m kind of excited, i may have found a home for a 6 year old female Rotti who’s Momma is in teh hospital very ill. The once pampered pooch is not chained in a backyard neglected, when the owners sister found the dog during her visit to see her ill sister they we shocked the care taker wasn’t actually caring for the dog, and decided she needed to go to a shelter. But a friend of mine had called me as her friend is looking for two older BIG female dogs to adopt after their old girls passed away earlier in the year. So if everything works out this Rotti will have a warm loving home for Xmas

Ah! Such pretty trees. I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving those huge, tacky colored lights from the eighties. They put me in the spirit!

Typically we do brunch at my mother-in-law’s and dinner at my sister-in-law’s. This year, not everyone can make brunch, so brunch has been rescheduled to Sunday morning. I’m actually looking forward to just hanging at home xmas morning.

Michael is getting a Wii. He is going to LOSE HIS MIND. This is all he has wanted for a long time…

Quiet Christmas at home planned here.  Christmas dinner is at my cousin’s place.  Scooter is trying to decide whether to buy a Wii or an Xbox with Kinect, and whether to get it now or sometime in the future.  I’ve got one of the foster kittens (Grady) back here over the holidays, he goes back to the shelter probably Tuesday.  Scooter is actually going to take the week between Christmas and New Year off – he hasn’t even taken a whole weekend away from work since about the summer so he’s due some down time.  Mind you if we do get a Wii or Kinect then I know what he’ll be doing for that week!

We’ve got 2 trees decorated this year – one on the main floor and one in the basement.  The main floor one is my “old” tree that I’ve had for about 20 years, but it looks a lot nicer than the tree we picked up a few years ago.  That’s the basement one.  I was just going to put my “old” tree up this year but we’ve got enough ornaments for 2 so….

Sierra and Ringo claiming their spot under the “new” tree

“new” tree under different lighting (I just can’t find the right setting/lighting for tree pictures!)

                                          “old” tree

                                          – Annette

I never mentioned exactly what HJ and I are doing – we’re both headed up to the DC area to our parents’ places as soon as he gets off work. I’m packing the bunnies up now, and I feel like I’m forgetting everything. So far I’ve packed:
                                            Litterbox x2
                                            Kale
                                            Spray Bottle
                                            Food/water dish
                                            Phonebook
                                            Carrier
Small cage (Which we essentially use as a carrier for Link’s overgrown butt)
                                            Brush
                                            Litter
                                            Pellets
Enough hay for the car ride (we’ll get more at my parent’s place).
                                            Harness for Navi
I feel like I’m forgetting something… we leave in less than an hour…

Oh, also, I made really cute custom photo cards with the photo I posted above on CVS’s website that I get to pick up in the morning. As well as the crib I ordered for my soon-to-be Goddaughter at Walmart. And I need to go to Tractor Supply to get my mom’s gift.

I am SO sick of Christmas music!

I sang in a concert a couple of weeks ago, sang an hour of Christmas music right before that, and sang in a mini-concert twice last week. Tomorrow, I have to sing at three Christmas church services instead of relaxing and wrapping presents. Please, the next time any of you hear me say that I miss singing Christmas music, lock me in a padded cell.

I’m hoping that I’ll be able to go out of town to get a few gifts for my family and the bunnies tomorrow. Even though I’ve been planning to do that for a week, my parents are trying to convince me not to get presents for anyone/bun. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to do that tomorrow.

Ugh, I know what you mean, FluffyBunny. I was in band from 6th grade to my freshman year of college. In middle and high school, concert band would start rehearsing Christmas music in September. I still hate Christmas music with a passion.

It’s gross-5/6 online gifts I bought aren’t here (Even though I bought them by Nov 18….) so I had to basically rebuy for most of the people on my list so they have something to open.

I’m so excited for my mom’s presents. I got her three cricut cartridges (scrapbook thing) and since they aren’t here yet I got her the cricut computer software today so she has something to unwrap. My dad was lost on what to get her so I bought her an ebook reader with his money; she’s lost on what to get him so I got him a new controller for his airplane simulator thingy. LOL I shop FOR my parents FROM my parents lol

My grandparents are in-my mom’s dad and my dad’s mom are all I have left so I’ve been visiting as much as possible. It’s a long story but Mandy (our family dog ) is really ill-she saw the specialist today and had a CT and MRI and surgery next week I think-so I’ve been over a lot helping with medicine (she also had an abscessed tooth so medicine is not easy) so it’s been really stressful.

I brought Mikey to work with me Wednesday because I was off so he met my boss. I was worried-even though she said I could bring him in (I work for a non-profit that runs many different types of hospitals basically-and we’re all pet friendly) it was corporate office with all the big wigs and my dog is insane….she jumped at him, unclipped his leash and ran down the hallway with him. Should have known better-I have an awesome boss

Also super happy with our Christmas angels-we have this program at work where residents (we house disabled people, dementia, people with MVA etc-all kinds of needs) who don’t have any family and wouldn’t have any gifts-we all get to draw names (if we want) and buy gifts-I was really happy with what I got this year and even my bro and his gf did an angel…They never know who you are, but it’s sooo rewarding to shop for someone that way

So funny I got my friends daughter soap that you make in the shape of brains and fingers and stuff-she’s gross like that and she loved it-we were up until ten pm tonight making sparkly scented colored brain soap. And as a horse themed gift (I didn’t start that by getting her into riding lol) I got her paper made out of horse poo-it’s so cute…it’s like a green product made totally out of poo and no paper

So xmas eve at Daves moms because she’s Ukrainian and thats her big night-and then xmas at my parents house

Scooter here. It’s Christmas Eve and I’m at work. 😐 I really need to get what I’m doing done, it’s been sitting on my desk for two months because I’ve had other things to do, and my student really should have it back in his hands when he reappears in a week. And I just discovered a big problem in my lab that I’ve managed to avert for now, but it probably means I’ll have to go in Monday to deal with it. Yeesh.

Wow love the bunny melon! What a fun idea.
I’m finishing up homemade presents tonight, and pre-cooking some food for tomorrow. I got a LOT of bunny and pet-themed presents for my fam this year (can’t post pictures yet since most of them are already wrapped.) I got the silver necklace with Mr. Bun-Bun’s picture in it for my sister, a tank top for her that says “Guess what, Bunny Butt” with a picture of a bunny butt of course, I got a tie for my dad printed with pictures of his cat all over it, and tonight I’m decoupaging two plain wooden frames with pictures of my parents’ cat all around them… Those are all the pet-themed gifts I think, LOL. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be getting many bunny-themed presents as well!

COOKING! I love cooking. I’m prepping for two of my favorites dishes for tomorrow, beet soup (a really rich and delicious recipe that takes forever to make) and vegetarian stuffed mushrooms. My sis and dad are making Christmas stollen and dad’s going to make a sweet potato pie. I’m trying to get the prep work done because tomorrow I’m going to make homemade hot chocolate (white and milk chocolate) with peppermint schnapps… and start hitting that pretty early yay I love the holidays, I hope everyone is having a good one full of good spirits, even if you don’t celebrate, it’s a good time of year to be happy.

I love the idea of the Christmas swim. Ahhh…that would be lovely, just not here where it’s going to be -30 to -40 below 0!

ROFL @ Beka…Yup, video games and lost minds seem to go hand in hand. I know mine goes right out the door when I boot up my DSi! xD

Hubby went into town today to pick up some last minute things and came back with a little table top tree. 0_0 I was surprised, didn’t ask him to get a tree of any kind this year, but this one will be like our little Charlie Brown tree…so I’ve got a little seasonal glow going on. ^_^
But as to what really triggers the feeling for me this time of year…well…that’s hard to say because it used to be how excited the kids would get, and of course now they are both WAY too old for ‘Santa’ even as a gesture of the spirit.
When I was a kid I would do all the decor. So I’d put on my turntable and my LP’s full of old Xmas songs that my folks had for years and just belt them out and put up all the paraphernalia. It was my job not only to bring it all out, but put it all back after about the 6th of January every year.

Now I think I just want to appreciate the beauty of the earth, the splendor of which reminds me just who the season is about.

Okay well it’s not technically MY shopping, it’s stuff that my mother asked to me to order for her. Future Shop’s sale started tonight so I ordered her stuff as soon as I was able to. Picked up a 4-in-one printer, regular $180, for $50!

It’s driven me crazy for years and I know I can google it, but I’d rather have someone who knows about it tell me. I know it’s big in Canada and Britain, and that’s it. I remember seeing it mentioned in quite a few of my favorite English t.v. shows.

There are several different theories on how the naming of it originated, but basically it’s the day after Christmas. The theory that I always heard was that wealthy families used to give their servants small token gifts for Christmas on the day after Christmas, when they’d present them with their little box/gift, hence calling it boxing day. Pretty much all the theories revolve around people who have money giving something to those who aren’t as well off on the day after Christmas, either by giving something in a box or putting money in the church boxes.

Now, it’s just a public holiday and in Canada at least a day of big sales. Think Black Friday in the US, but after Christmas. Also handy for retailers to put on sale all the overstock that didn’t sell before Christmas.

LOL yeah the picture is real. My friend lives in Chicago too but has a backyard. He took the picture this morning. The squirrel probably dug the pizza out of the trash. Once I saw a squirrel eating a bagel, that was hysterical. He was holding it in his hands and spinning it while he chewed around the circumference. Those little garbage munchers sure are funny sometimes.

Especially because I grew up singing all my life and have done songs in sooo many choirs so I’m totally burned out on it. Beside the fact that a lot of it is just terrible anyway!

I decided i’m going to try to make a spinach & artichoke quiche this week :] Too bad we’re not neighbors! I’m used to getting weird presents. But I’m kind of weird. When something shouldn’t exist and someone close to me sees it, they always want to buy it for me, hahaha.

Also, most air sprays and fragrances. My mom got me some aromatherapy, which was a cute idea, but I can’t use it

I know I can use Pureology and Biolage products, but I don’t think those are considered organic. Could be wrong, though. I know I’m usually okay with pure flower oils (like lavender oil).

                                                                                                                    2 pre-baked 8-inch pie shells

To make the custard, mix the ingredients together. Place spinach, artichoke hearts, and cheese into pie shells. Add the custard mixture. Place in a 375-degree oven and bake 45 minutes to one hour until the custard is set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Did manage to pick up an Xbox Kinect bundle, Beatles Rock Band bundle, and a couple of games. Now I’m exhausted and just want to sleep! I have to say though that the crowds shopping were quite good. Parking lots were a little crazy, lots of really stupid people out there both in terms of drivers and pedestrians (Hello the fact that I’m backing up means that you probably shouldn’t walk and stop right behind my car, especially when I’m already half out of the spot) but the crowds in the stores were pretty good and in some cases there were no lineups at all at the cash registers.

It took about a month to make, working a couple of hours a day, with a few days off. It takes so long to make a piece that it really is a gift from the heart. I want to make another same design for my house but it will be a while before I’m willing to stitch it again.

I’m dreading New Years….my good friends are going to a thing at the bar. Honestly I feel way to old to hang out in bars…to boot Edmonton has become less then safe in the past years and the last few times I’ve been to the bar (even nice ones) there were fights. I’m just too old for that, I find it ruins the evening even if no one I know is involved and the fights aren’t serious. I really only even would consider one bar in particular (Because they have zero tolerance and it’s quite safe) and even that-ugh…a bar? plus I want to ring it in with Mikey and the bunnies. I was hoping to have some friends here but everyone is going out. Gross. Whats with that?

Any one want to share their new years plans?

I don’t know if it’s an age thing so much as a personal preference. I really don’t like being at bars. Stinky, crowded, overpriced, and I come home feeling dirty like I have cigarette smoke on my clothes and in my hair. I’ve just never been a bar person!

Just hanging out with the hubby and bunnies with a bottle of champagne. He wants pizza for dinner lol.

I’ve never liked bars and I would hate to be at a bar for New Year’s Eve…so crowded and loud. I’m going for a family gathering type-party at my sister’s place. Most exciting New Year’s in years, lol, usually we don’t do anything. When I get home I will toast a carrot with the bunnies!

I am a drinker (I prefer the term “wino” actually) but there’s nothing worse than a bar on New Year’s. Amateur Night, people way out of control, too expensive, and crowds! Ugh. At least here smoking isn’t permitted in bars anymore (I worked in bars when it was still allowed, I smelled so disgusting after every shift.)

My sister and I are cooking and a few friends coming over. I’m making pizza from scratch, one of my specialties, we’re doing a big salad and roasted vegetables, we have a ton of booze and wine and champagne, we’re just going to chill. It’s really just like any other night.

More so because of what happened….So miffed someone has been setting off fireworks for hours, had to sedate Mikey and it will be a long while before the kick in. I understand they are fun(fireworks not sedatives hehe), but they are also illegal here so you know…don’t scare my dog grrrrr

Shadow and Taiku both were terrible with fireworks, thunder and gunfire, all of which we get in abundance here. I’m sorry to hear you had to slip Mikey a micky.
I would give diazepam in spades to my two and still have to sit with them the whole time there was any noise, otherwise they’d pace to the point of almost foaming at the mouth, and Taiku especially would tear at the fence with his teeth and rip his gums apart. It was horrible.
