So at first when the winter started I was afraid to let the bunnies out near the fireplace…turns out they both love it.  I always thought bunnies weren’t good with heat?  So should I trust they know what’s good for them?  Or make them move away.  Here’s Blu in his favorite spot…BEHIND the fireplace where it is SO WARM.

I get too hot trying to sit near him!  I guess they know what’s good for them, shortly after he moved a little further away off the brick.

Is it weird for him to like the heat?

Do the legs get hot too? I guess I’d just be concerned that if the metal (or iron?) legs get too hot, they could burn themselves, but as long as they always have the option of leaving the area, it should be okay.

My grandma’s cats will lay in front of the fireplace. As long as the bunnies don’t overheat or go near the fire, they should be okay

That’s a gorgeous house rabbit portrait. I just love this picture! It’s like a painting.
My rabbit Mops used to sleep right on top of my heating vents… I used to put a tile over top of them for him.

                Totally beautiful shot!!

I agree-maybe block off the legs just in case one binkies into the hot leg…but as long as they can move away when they are too warm…I think all animals love to curl up by the fire, or in a sunspot. Rupert is always laying by the heat vent at our house Not quite as picturesque

Thanks everyone Yes I love the picture, not to boast, but it’s just nice to capture a good one every now and then.. I take so many, and most are just so-so…bunnies always seem to move at the wrong moment lol.

So I know the whole wood stove (it’s totally shut off, no open flame) is pretty warm…He’s been hanging out near it for a few months now so I know he’s aware of the heat, I just thought it was odd for him to like being so warm. I keep it pretty cool in their room, so maybe he likes warming up a bit..haha. I’ll pay close attention, but it’s hard to stop him from darting under (yes under..he’s crazy) and around it..he really has fun with it. But he’s never hurt himself or anything so I’m hoping he knows his limits. Pretty soon we’ll be moving on to another house..but they’ve really enjoyed playing here at my parents’ house! ( we sold ours… we’re technically homeless while ours is being built! so the bunnies have a lot of changes ahead.)

                  Thanks again!!

My bunnies have always loved heat sources… they used to sit like right beside our standalone oil heater in our previous house. These days, they tend to sit in front of the heat vent. (And they always search for sunlight to sit in)

Lol, never made sense to me, as if I were them, I think I’d be too hot with all that fur. X_x

Dutchess likes to sit by the fireplace for a while, then she’ll move on a few feet away if she gets warm.

I’m a bit surprised he likes the heat, too.

Just a bit of trivia fact because I researched cats for my job lately: a cat has their body temperature fall when they sleep during the day, so they pick a warm or sunny spot to lie in as they anticipate being colder when they nap.

I don’t believe this is true for bunnies or other animals, but I am not certain.
