When I came home from my mom’s after my surgery, Lolli had poopy butt.  She was only getting 2-3 gerber mini fruit pieces (tiny tiny pieces of dried fruit), pellets and hay as my mom was taking care of her.  So I can only assume the pellets caused her poopy butt.  She is still getting 1/4 cup of pellets a day.  She got more when I was away because she wasn’t getting lettuce.

I am thinking about reducing her pellets and forcing her to eat more hay.  She would still get her 2 cups of lettuce a day.  She would be ok with this diet right?   lol   She’s my baby and I worry about her.

She keeps getting poopy butt and I can’t figure it out why.  She had very limited treats cause she was at home while my mom came and took care of her and checked on her.  So if she didn’t have a lot of sugar in her system, then it had to be the pellets.  But when I limit pellets and feed more lettuce, she gets poopy butt.  When I give more treats she gets poopy butt.  When I severely limit the treats, she gets poopy butt.  I give up!!!  lol  The only constants is any of these is pellets and hay.  So…it has to be the pellets right?   Any thoughts?

I will probably take lolli in for a sanitary shave since that seems to help the poop not get stuck in her fur. For a while, I seriously thought she was super lazy and just pooped where she laid and that’s how poop got stuck to her cause sometimes she has fully formed normal poop stuck to her.

Apparently she lost some weight while I was gone.  LOL   My friend said her dewlap looked a bit smaller so that’s good.  I thought she felt a bit lighter but I also figured that was just in my head and wishful thinking.

What kind of lettuce is she getting? A combination of the lettuce and pellets may be upsetting her tummy. Have you tried other varieties?

I buy her an organic baby spring mix. It has green and red romaine, spinach (which she doesn’t eat), oakleaf lettuce, red and green chard, lolla rosa, arugula, mizuna tatsol, green leaf and red leaf lettuce. All are baby lettuces. If I buy separate heads of the lettuce, she gets romaine and green leaf along with parsley and cilantro on occasion. She is a picky eater so romaine and green leaf are pretty much all she’ll eat except for the baby spring mix.

maybe try giving her small samples of the mix, individually, for a few days to see how she reacts to each. Perhaps one of those is the culprit.

I don’t have any right now. I ran out and can’t drive. Which totally sucks. lol But tomorrow I should be able to get some more and I will try giving her smaller amounts and see how she does. Thanks for the advice.

She had also started to lick things. Which is unusual behavior for her cause she’s not a licker. If it was Eddie, it wouldn’t mean anything cause he licked everything. Lolli doesn’t and I watched her lick a flip flop yesterday. Could this be a sign she needs salt?

If I had the money, I’d take her to the vet and get a complete work up done. Which would probably show that she is completely fine. lol

If she gets that much for pellets, she doesn’t need salt. There is enough in the pellets.

I would try stopping the baby mixed greens since the culprit could be the combo of some kind, and just do either romaine or green leaf for a couple of weeks. Limit treats (like none for at least 3 days) and just feed max. 1/4 cup pellets daily and a lot of hay. If she’s lost weight because she’s had fewer treats, she may have soft poos due to slimming down. But if it’s an illness, it will still show up with a very simple, basic diet. I am curious to see also if she gets less poopy butt while being back home with you there. Stress of change can also bring it on, so as well meaning as you mother is, it may be better to get back to her normal routine with you. If it is still happening after about 3 days of the simple ajustments, I’m afraid you will need to call the vet.

Make sure she also has very fresh hay, preferably timmothy, very healthy, simple pellets, and lots of water.
