I came home from work yesterday and greeted my rabbits as usual.  I noticed that Abby, the Netherland Dwarf, had her head very slightly off to one side.  She’s not too keen on being pet or picked up so it was difficult to figure out if she was doing it intentionally or not. (She’s a rescue who was previously abused so she thinks everyone is out to get her.  It took me 2 years to get her to trust me enough to take food from me.)

Anyways, my question is, if a rabbit has head tilt, would it be possible for them to move their neck in the opposite direction that it is tilting or is it basically stuck in the tilted position?  I gave her a treat and tried to get her to move her head the other way which she did slightly.  Also, when she hears a noise, her head and ears stick straight up.  I’m not sure if rabbits with head tilt still do that.  If not, I guess the head tilt could be my imagination and I’m just paranoid…

Her head is very slightly tilted.  If comparing it to a clock, I’d say instead of being at 12 o’clock her head is at 11 o’clock, maybe not even that.

You should read this and see if the symptoms are the same:

Last week, I thought one of my had a head tilt as well, but it only lasted a day and just like yours, if I made a noise, she would stick her head straight up, which I don’t think they are capable of.

It is possible for them to move intentionally in the other direction. When Chuck first came down with it, it was an almost imperceptable tilt. I’d see a vet right away as treatment works best the quicker it’s given.
