One of the forum leaders on this site, Sarita, has a couple of these cages, and she likes them, but I think she’s moved on to regular puppy xpens. They are much more versatile and easier to clean. They’re not a stationary cage, so the entire pen can be removed for a very thorough cleaning of the area. I wouldn’t personally spend the money on the Leith cages when you could get an xpen for very cheap (less money than even a regular plastic-bottomed cage!)  Another option is building your own condo, another inexpensive option for housing.

I don’t personally own a leith cage but I have a wooden cage pretty much identical to it, and I think it’s the best cage to have if you need a secure cage safe from dogs and cats. So you just need to consider you will have to be reaching in far inside to clean it and whatnot but I would have had to buy one if my friend didn’t build me mine. Right now I don’t mind getting on my hands and knees to clean it but probably 10 years from now I won’t think it’s too much fun. But if you don’t have other pets to worry about then I really think the dog xpen’s are the way to go.

When I was shopping for bunny cages I really wanted one of those lieth petwerks bunny abodes badly. I ended up with an wood hutch and I’m so glad I did. Cheaper, and I think I would have hated reaching in there to clean. Plus I really love the look of wood. This is what I ended up with instead.

I have and love this cage for my Dutch pair.

Some pros:

1. Built up instead of out so you have more floor space.
2. Really attractive cage and they are built by rabbit owners for rabbits.
3. For me they are easy to clean but you have to adapt your vacuum cleaner to fit into the cage – maybe it’s just my vacuum cleaner though because it didn’t come equipped right (in my own opinion).
4. Sturdy and easy to move around.

Some cons:

1. Not made for large rabbits – they would be totally unhappy in this set-up – the ramp opening is too small and not enough space really for a larger rabbit. It’s great for small and small/medium rabbits though.
2. It’s expensive but I’ve never ever regretted purchasing mine and the one’s I no longer use and have given to my rabbit owner friends have been ecstatic to have my “leftovers” – they love them too.
3. I don’t think they would be great for an overly messy rabbit – of course, it depends on what you mean by messy. My pair is pretty darn clean and easy maintenance – not perfect clean but cleaner than most.

Overall, I would say if you have the money and the right rabbit – it’s a wonderful cage. I would not hesitate recommending these cages at all.

The initial set-up will require 2 people – just makes it easier. The set-up is very innovative – the “cage part” folds so it can be shipped and you have to get them the slots for the bottom and top of the set-up and they fit just so – so having help getting them in initially is best. One person can do it, but it just takes more time.

Okay – it’s not far inside to clean this cage either – they are 2 feet wide and 4 feet long – you want the larger size cage. I think what I do like about this is that it is not all wood all the way around – more air circulation and less chance for rabbit pee to mess up the wood.

Sounds like a really nice cage then, I will probably have to get one someday since my Indy Mansion probably won’t travel.

I have this cage.. I just use my x-pen now. I broke one of the hinges that helps hold up the wood  Need to get that fixed sometime..

I just didn’t put the 3rd level up since we will be moving sooner or later and zipties are so annoying to cut!

It is a HUGE cage, and Smokey absolutely adores it. I’m lucky she’s pretty clean, since it’s a stretch to get to the back without laying on the floor. But it does have locking wheels, linoleum bottom and carpet on the 2nd and 3rd layers, with PVC pipe as supports. She likes to spend more time IN her condo than out.

They’re pricey, but I’ve heard some terrible things about cheaper onces Petsmart/Petco have, such as plastic bottom cages, etc, of rabbits falling through because the bottom gives out.

This was the best investment I ever made. It’s going to be her permanent home plus her new friend’s home whenever I buy bunny number two

That is a NIC cage that you assemble yourself I think. It’s nice. Yes, those cages from Petsmart and Petco aren’t sturdy or well made.

If yes, then yes, you have to somewhat assemble it. Just the panels, not the floor. You have to screw the wheels on, but the first layer of panels is already attached to the bottom, so all you do is built on top of that : ) It was really easy, although it takes about 1.5 hours with half-help from a lazy sibling just to get it to 2 levels : )

But Smokey and I agree it was worth it!
