We recently moved into a bigger house because from what we understood we were supposed to stay stationed here in WA for the next 3 years…. WELL we were just told that it looks like we will be gettting restationed to JAPAN sometime in the next 6 months!

My husbands response in regards to our animals was “we can leave them with your mother for 3 years”!!!!  As far as animals go my husband and I were raised quite differently. I was raised with the thought that a pet is part of the family and is something you’re dedicatied to taking care of and loving. My husband was raised with the thought that pets are pets and can be easily replaced!!!  Needless to say his comment infuriated me. He is now okay with bringing our boys with us when we go (yep, angry wife won that battle).

Our dog will have to wait in the states until we get moved into a pet approved home in Japan but if I can I would like to bring Sucre over with me when we first move. What I’m wondering is if anyone as ever taken their rabbits on an airplane before? Tips? Advice? Calming words to soothe my mind?

I have read that a rabbit should only go in the cabin, which is why I plan on bringing him with us when we go. I really don’t want to stress Sucre out with the BIG move but I would hate to leave him behind. Is this too big of a trip? I’m worried!!

Oh wow, that IS a big move! I think there are strong rules in place for getting rabbits OUT of japan? I read a forum about a year ago of a lady in japan who was moving to the USA and it was illegal for her rabbit to leave japan, and apparently no way around it. She had to leave him behind. I’m not sure about taking them in to japan, but once there, what if he couldn’t leave with you?

That was quite some news to get after you’ve just moved house!!! Do you know how long you will be in Japan?
The 1st step I would take is to look at quarantine laws for both Japan and the US. You have to look into whether you can bring rabbits back into the US also.
As for flying, I have heard of some international airlines that allow rabbits in the cabin. Flights to Asia? I’m not certain…

This will be a busy 6 months for you!

I have flown with rabbits a couple of times. They usually handle it well. As long as you keep things away from the carrier, they’re usually more curious than scared.
