Dutchess has some pearling poops-I believe this is due to shedding time? Is there something I can give her to help this stop, is this normal to happen every few months, etc.?

you could try giving her papaya tablets. They help hair balls and prevents blockages.

          Edit: here is a pic.

Yes, it is due to shedding. Have you been brushing her? I do a weekly hair plucking, just gentle and loose fur will come off. It does help

I would suggest OAT HAY Its thickness helps push things through!!

Hay hay hay hay hay! And as Brittany said, you must groom them while they’re shedding. Even if she’s a no-touch bunny that sulks

Pearling poops is a good sign that the fur is going through the digestive system. But lots of hay, water and activity are what keeps the gut moving – that is your best bet. Also brushing.

She gets out of her habitat to run and play (she ran about five times around the entire great room at break neck speed last night, to my giggling) at least 10-14 hours per day. She has a full water bottle and free choice hay. I have been brushing her (not as much as I should) but also when I pet her several times a day I try to pull out or rub out the fur that is shedding. So it looks like I’m doing what I should be, I will pick her up some pineapple tonight if I can-I tried pineapple juice once, but she refused it. Of course that was before she ‘decided’ she was going to like craisins and raisins. She doesn’t seem to have many pearls today so far.

The pineapple juice must be fresh and truthfully most rabbits will turn their nose up at this. Just keep up with the fresh hay – that is what is going to help keep the gut moving.

Rabbits don’t get hair balls and blockages are caused by the gut slowing down. You are best to stick to a simple diet with hay as the major part of the diet, then fresh greens and limited pellets. Sticking with the basics is the best prevention.

If she has trouble staying still, I put a towel on the bathroom counter and pluck away. My bunny doesn’t like heights, so I am not worried about her jumping off the sink. It works for me, it may make her mad, but it is for her own good.

Good luck with plucking MISS DIVA They appreciate a treat after

That’s a great idea Brittany! I never thought of putting her on a counter to do grooming, usually I have to hold her to brush her, which equals me not getting all of her brushed. I’ll have to try that tomorrow! Miss Diva certainly loves her treats, she just got a little banana, which made her frisky and off she binkied to the land of the carpeting across the room.
