Are your bunnies affraid of the vacuum?
I always would put PitStop downstairs when i Vacuumed to not upset him, but after putting the Tree up the other half Vacuumed without moving the bunny. Pitter’s could have cared less, at one point he actually went up and sniffed the Vacuum while it was on. He continued on playing while we finished up too.

Before this, i had never used a vacuum around the bunnies. I am very sure Spencer & Suzy would be scared (they are frightened of everything) but is this sorta normal of a ‘house rabbit’ getting sort of acustomed to these types of things? or do i just have one very ‘chill’ bunny who adapts well LOL

If most bunnies are ok with it, I may use the shop Vac to get hidden turds this winter in the bunny room (lol). Usually I can only do that kind of cleaning when it’s summer and the bunnies are outside playing.

The first few times Bumblebunny heard the big carpet vacuum or the little portable he would run and hide; so we vacuumed while he was in another room. Over time he started coming a little closer to the vacuum each time we used it to see what was happening. Now he runs over to the vacuum while it is running and sometimes tries to climb on it. Now we have to turn it off and shoo him away so we can finish. The first time he hears a loud, strange sound he runs around and hides, but over the two years we have had him he has adjusted to every sound from inside and outside the house.

Smudge and Monkey are terrified of it. Moose doesn’t care, which is weird, cuz he’s terrified of everything else. I have to put Smudge in her carrier in the bathroom with the door shut or she totally freaks out. Monkey will race around and dive into her hidey house as soon as she sees the vacuum appear

They sit in the maze and don’t come out if I’m vacuuming, but then I usually vacuum when they would be asleep in the maze anyway 😛 They certainly don’t like it, but they don’t flip out or anything unless they are out of their maze and I’m coming right for them.

My rabbits are used to many very loud noises, the vacuum being the most harmless of them. Since they live in the basement they got used to loud noises from power tools, wood sawing noise, nail pounding and it does annoy them but they usually continue sleeping, or at least loafing.

If I just flip it on without any warning they will sometimes get startled and run away, so I’ve taken to yelling, “VRRMM, VRRMM, VRRMM!” before I turn it on and they don’t even flinch. Same with the coffee grinder.

Dutchess runs and hides from it, I vacuum where she is hiding and she runs to her other hiding spot in the other side of the room. I stop vacuuming and out she comes.

Zeus has zero fear for my little hand vac, and he never used to mind the upright vac.. but I recently bought a new upright, and it does sound a bit different, and he’s not too sure about the new one.

The hand vac, I’ll be vaccuuming out his cage, and he’ll jump in there and nudge the vaccuum while it’s on and I’m using it.

EDIT; I never vaccuum his cage while he’s locked in there, or even if the door’s open and he’s choosing to hang out in there.  He’ll be hanging out in the bathroom, and will actually come into the living room and go into his cage while I’m vaccuuming it, to inspect my work.

My buns were completely fearless, just curious, right up until the day Bisto came to investigate the attachment hose while I was distracted and sniffed the end of it: “OMG, OMG, it tried to suck me up, Mummy!”

He appears to have told Oxo it is a malevolent creature set on eating them and they now hide behind the sofa on its appearance.

Bunnnnnnie, I have an inspector bunny too. lol

Rumball seems to like the vacuum. Even if I’ve only put in in the room I’m going to clean, I’ll often come back in and find him there by the vac.
My new one is quiet but he wasn’t bothered by the old one either. The new one has adjustable suction levels so I have actually put it on the lowest and held the hose perpendicular just above his backs fur and he just lay there. Jersey is not as keen on it but she doesn’t freak out or anything.

Lol @ runawabunny! So what noise do you yell when about to use the coffee grinder? :p

@Monkeybun, the vac sounds like a good bonding aid for Monkey and Smudge…

Ruby never did like the vacuum.         Then one day the extension hose got her.   Now she stays on the opposite side of the room til I am done.

Cotton he doesn’t seem to mind too much.   He does keep an eye on it though  Just in case

Tammo just completely ignored the vacuum…he couldn’t bother to get up from his nap to move just because we were cleaning. We could vacuum right up to him and he wouldn’t budge; sometimes we had to forcibly eject him from his spot to vacuum the carpet underneath him

Same thing. It’s a very similar noise. By now they are used to the coffee grinder going every morning but I still make my husband yell “VRRMM VRRMM VRRMM.”  They appreciate a warning and it’s funny.

This thread reminded me about the time I was working at the shelter and using a shop vac to clean a cage (like normal). I think it was one of my first times and I wasn’t good at using the shop vac in the cage with a bunny, so I accidentally sucked a bunny’s side into the hose 😮 She was not happy with me!

Frankie has never been scared of the vacuum. He isn’t scared by much, though. Sometimes he even gets annoying when I vacuum. He’ll get in the way and sometimes will “challenge” the vac and try to pounce at it. If he won’t move out of the way, I’ll just push him with the vacuum or put the hose up to his butt to annoy him back if I’m using the attachment.

It’s amazing to me how little bunnies think nothing of the Vaccum, but big dogs think it’s the worst thing EVER! lol…

Oreo thinks the vacuum is her enemy.  If she is sleeping up stairs and hears the vacuum she will run downstairs to see where it is plugged in.  If it is plugged in at anyone one of her two spots in the living room she will unplug it from the wall.  If I am vacuuming where she is she will challenge it by growling and putting her front paws on it.  Interruppting her sleep really makes her mad

Max is okay with it. Sometimes he runs, sometimes he doesn’t. He’s also gone up to it while running and sniffed it. When Meadow see the vac, she is gone.
