I just need general advice or thoughts and opinions.  Basically what you do…..

I have been on a medical leave since July 12th.  I get short term disability pay from my employer through Metlife.  I have not received a check from them since the end of October.  I call every couple of weeks to get the status.  I keep getting told my case is in review.  I called my employee benefits rep at CEFCU who is like the facilitator.  She and her manager have both called Metlife and even went passed the case manager to the account manager and have not heard anything back from either one.  So at this point, there my hands and my employers hands are tied.

I need money because I’m close to being evicted if I don’t pay some rent.  I also need money cause it’s MY money I’m entitled to through my employer’s insurance plan.  I need money to live.

What would you all do next?  Should I at least consult a laywer?  Not necessarily hire one or anything or just do a consultation to get some legal advice?

I am so stressed out about not having money and it’s causing me to be severely depressed.  I was so unbelievably depressed and stressed out before my surgery, I’m a bit surprised I’m doing as well as I am regarding it.  I know that probably sounds weird or superstitious but it’s been proven how much stress affects our bodies.

There’s not a whole lot more I can do really.  I do know this but I just feel like there should be SOMETHING else I can do. Sigh.

There are a few lawyers out there who specialize in these types of cases. I’d look for a disability Lawyer near you.

I second that. I remember being told after I filled out my mom’s disability papers, that if she didn’t get approved, I would need to seek out a lawyer that does disability cases. Some don’t require payment until after the case, it all depends.

This isn’t dealing with social security. This is dealing with short term disability through my employer. It’s part of my employer’s insurance plan. I am going to be filing for social security disability and need to find a lawyer for that. But in the meantime, I am dealing with this.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I can’t even imagine how stressful it must be.

I would definitely seek out a lawyer and get some advice on the matter – you’ve waited long enough, I think, and could use the help of a professional to move things along.

I’m recovering just fine from the surgery. It’s just everything else I’m not. LOL I have an uncle who’s a lawyer so maybe I’ll talk to him. See what he has to say.

I know, I know. My family doesn’t really bug him about stuff though. So it has to be serious and I guess I’m just not sure how serious this is.

*blink* Talk to your uncle! Is he the type that would be miffed you didn’t contact him after hearing of your trouble? Your doubting of the seriousness might be a bit of the depression. You know, when it gets hard to make a decision? Plus general stress post surgery and everything your dealing with. You don’t have anything to lose in calling him. If he can’t help, well then you just find someone you don’t know. If he can help & give some pointers, then you’re on your way.

                          (((vibes)))

Just talk to this uncle who is a lawyer, to find out what the hold-up could be about. “In review” can mean a lot of things. You need to know what is going on.
(on a side note: I am confused. Brittany, do you have the same uncle?)

Yes, you need to find out what “in review” is and if there is something that is not being provided to them that you can help with.
