Ok, not literally, but in a way.

I’ve never had money to pay someone to clip my bunnies nails or clean their glands, so i learned to do it myself.. and i put an add on kijiji for nail clipping and scent gland cleaning and ohmygosh so many replies, from people with single or pair bunnies, and even breeders with 30+ rabbits! $15 per rabbit (for nails and glands) and then discounts for more rabbits.. wow, it adds up..

If you know how to do it, and have time and a car.. i strongly suggest posting an add!

That is neat! Something you didn’t have the money for is now bringing you money.

I’ve thought about this just so I could meet other bunnies. lol.  I did the duty yesterday and they were not happy!

A small word of caution (gah!) When you’re handling other rabbits, be sure to change clothes before you handle your own girls. Better to be safe then sorry. ;o)

Jersey: i’ve seen a few bunnies already and i’ve checked them over for flea’s and ticks and such before handling , and my clothes were changed before i stepped through my house door.. just incase.. mites and any other diseases, ICK!!

Brittany: I’ve seen a few single bunnies so far, i just got a couple big ones today though, so i figured i’d share, it gives me a chance to tell people about how bunnies SHOULD be kept, and give you guys a chance too aswell , and make a little side cash.

My fear with this is that if they have a rabbit who is hard to handle and you injure the rabbit, it could be bad. Also you don’t know if their rabbits have anything that they could give your rabbits. You have to be very careful with other people’s animals and protect your own.

I did that last year…well, sort of. I got in contact with a girl who didn’t know how to clip the nails, and I needed someone to bunnysit while we were on holiday. So I went to her house and trimmed the nails and taught her how to do it, and she bunnysat. It was really great – but never in my life have I seen such fat bunnies and such long nails!! :S

I think it is an excellent idea, MirBear. Great initiative!

I am very proud of you for doing something good for bunnies and something that will help you care for your own buns! Great job. Like Sarita said, you have to be very, very careful with other people’s bunnies. Do you know how to clip nails a few different ways because not all ways work for all buns? Also, be careful going to do this, is your mom or someone going with you? You also need to clean the nail clippers between using them on different bunnies.

Mirbear, have somene go with you, even your best friend or someone. Don’t go along into people’s houses.
You will have the money to pay for your two rabbits’ spays in no time.

great idea mirbear! and some excellent tips re:running your own business stated above. don’t be afraid to ask for cash upfront. bill collecting can be a huge pain and inevitably some one will try to take advantage of your good nature. pre-arrange the payment when you schedule a visit so as not to surprise your client. if a bunny is unusually difficult to work with you can always rescind your service and recommend vet trims to be cautious that no one gets hurt

im only accepting cash upfront, and its all pre- arranged..

and everyone has to sign a waiver.. so its all good..

Hey I bet insurance is to protect you against accidental injuries isn’t that much. You should look into it! OMG I should do that too and also take the class for angora grooming.
