Just bought some parsley for thumper for the first time and boy did she love it! I have never seen her eat anything so fast, not carrots, lettuce, or brocolli. I also bought some organic dill, do other bunnies like this? I think I’m going to try it next week.
Some buns like dill. Let us know how she likes it. Parsley is a fav in my house. It’s always the first thing to get snarfed up!
I decided she might as well try the dill now; a smashing success! I think she might have even gobbled it up faster the parsley! Then again she pretty much eats everything under the sun besides celery.
Yep Cotton just loves his parsley . HE eats that first.
Ruby likes it too.
Parsley is like crack in my house! My two eat it before anything else.
I’ve given them dill before, but it has never been a favorite and is the last thing they eat. Still, all bunnies have different tastes, so your bun might love it!
So far I have tried parsley, romaine, dill, carrots, celery, broccoli, cucumber; the only thing she ever said no to was celery. It gets thrown into the litterbox ![]()
Muehehe, my bunny destests parsley.. but.. she loves ITALIAN PARSLEY

Lol! Mine adore parsley too, but not quite as much as coriander.
Where are the pictures of Thumper with a parsley mustache? ![]()
Will get those up asap if I knew how to put them on the forum :S
Merry LOVES parsley – it’s always the first thing she goes for – unless she’s got some cilantro! You might want to consider giving that a try. Apparently it’s delish! ![]()
Sammy is having parsley with her red leaf lettuce this week as a supplemental treat. She had almost 2 weeks of Kale (she loves it) while I was trying to find fresh lettuce for her, and oh, boy, the gas. Whew! So the parsley is a refreshing change in the whole apartment. ![]()
OMG I’m a nerd… sometimes when I’m preparing Bun-Bun’s meal and he’s impatiently trying to climb my leg to get to it, I put a tiny bit of dill or cilantro on another veggie, like broccoli or carrot, and tell him it’s his appetizer… LOL ![]()
Dill is one of his super-favorites. I love how fresh it smells, I can smell him munching on it from 4 feet away.
The only things he turns down is mint and sometimes basil (that could be due to me giving him too much of it in the summer, maybe he just got sick of it? Ha.)
Can you ever feed too much veggies? Rex gets very limited pellets (nicer ones ordered on this site), lots of hay and 2 salads that fill one of my bowls a day. He’s 4.5 pounds. He will put down a whole salad so very fast! We do one in the morning and one in the evening. Is it ever too much? He won’t take to fruit really, but loves spinach, romaine lettuce and carrots.
I’m newer here than most people but from what I understand you can’t really overfeed veggies, but you need to give them only a couple times a day to make sure he eats mostly hay… my bun gets 2 cereal bowls per day of veggies also and he’s 4 lbs. You should definitely limit carrots since they have a high sugar content, along with fruits, so it’s OK if he doesn’t like fruit, they don’t have to eat them to get their nutrients. One thing I was wondering, maybe someone else can answer, do I have to limit peppers (red and yellow?) I eat a lot of peppers so I feed them to him quite often, but usually only a 1″ square piece every day or every other day. I know they’re sweeter than other veggies so maybe I should treat them more like carrots, for occasional feeding only.
Limit carrots? I give him about 6 baby carrots a day. Is that too many? They look so small… but I did not ever think of them as sweet and counting like a fruit.
My previous bunny wouldn’t touch carrots, so I was so excited that he loves them so much, maybe I’m over doing it 🙂
Yeah I think that’s too much. There are worse diets of course, when I adopted Bun-Bun I transitioned him from a mainly pellet diet, plus he had treats and chews in his cage with seeds and nuts in them which I had to throw out. The only problem with high-sugar veggies is that it can make them overweight, it’s not dangerous to their health other than that. Someone with more experience should jump into this thread at some point! I would limit him to two baby carrots a day personally, and cut back on that if he starts gaining weight. Get more dark leafy greens, buns love them and they’re good for humans too. I just split up a batch of turnip greens, Bun-Bun gets his raw in a salad and I stir-fry mine with onions, chili garlic paste and soy sauce ![]()
You’re right on target, MayaConsuelo. 6 baby carrots IS too much I’m afraid. I would never give more than 2 a day, and you don’t have to give them daily. You can give a couple one meal, then something else the next day – use it like a dessert. Carrots are healthy, and fruits too, but in moderation because they will fill up on them first. They love sweets, and the carrots and fruits qualify, so it can lead to getting fat.
The other risk is that as long as you have too many pellets and treat-like foods, the less your bunny will eat their hay. It’s much better for them to still be a bit hungry when they’ve finished their fresh foods and pellets so they will eat as much hay as possible. The hay is what keeps them very, very healthy. It helps to digest the rest easily. The greens can be plentiful, and much more than pellets in quantity. Greens can be in a small cereal bowl, or a regular small animal dish, twice a day is fine. Dark leafy is the best. Never, never give iceberg lettuce to a rabbit. But once they eat the greens, make sure you’re offering the fresh hay that is their favorite kind at the same time. Hay should be unlimited. I’ve seen Sammy leave greens in her bowl and prefer a batch of nice hay instead for several hours.
