Ugh Mr. Bun-Bun has what I thought was a little sore hock. I noticed he had a rubbed-off pink patch on the inside of his right back foot. Not unusual for rexes I know, but tonight I noticed it actually looked like an infection (whitish spot with a tiny red ring.) Also, it’s not on the normal spot for sore hocks, it’s on the bottom but closer up to the side where pressure would never be applied. I’m not even going to bother to try to take a pic because it’s very small, maybe 2 mm across.
Well tonight I picked him up to apply some Neosporin for the first time. When I was putting it on I noticed it’s actually a RAISED spot, a bump protruding from his foot! So definitely not a normal sore hock or callus, which would be worn down. The area is quite small… I’ve been googling and image googling and can’t seem to find any answers so my question is:
1. Should I just keep applying Neosporin for a few days over the weekend and see what happens? Obviously this is not a critical or life-threatening situation at this point so I’m not going to rush to the vet.
2. Anyone else have this happen to their rabbit? If so, any advice?
3. Nothing I’ve read seems to be helpful, Mr. Bun-Bun doesn’t have dirty living situations, quite the opposite. I’ve read that bunnies can have problems being on hardwood floors longterm, but I don’t have a choice… nor can I line his cage with cushy carpets and towels because he’ll eat them and pee on them. But since the bump is raised I really don’t think it’s a sore hock.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks and hope you’re all having a good night!
