Help. I rearranged their rugs and put a different one underneath their litterbox area.  My bunnies have taken to pooping and peeing all over the rug next to the litterbox INSTEAD of their litterbox.  They stopped doing it for a few days. But did it again last night.  I’m going nutso.

It might resolve on its own, as it could be a matter of them just littering up the rearranged area, or, you might have to take away the implicated rug near the litterbox.

thanks. at first i thought their litterbox was too dirty. then i cleaned it up. they started ignoring the rug.

last night i tidied up the litterbox like usual. not tooooo clean. and they started using the darn rug again! i think they like that rug.

I used to give my buns a towel next to their litterbox -it’s their favourite snuggle spot. They just couldn’t resist peeing on the fabric but leave the spot alone when its gone. I gave up and took it away.

I’d give it a week or so, then if they are persisting give up. Some buns just can’t resist viewing set ups like that as a litter box extension!

My 2 dutch boys do that. If you put a rug in, its their new litter box. If you dont put a rug in, back to the litterbox.

This can be really exhausting and you have my sympathies. My two went through an August until October Urine and Poo binge.

I had to change their litter set up and remove all the rugs. The rugs have been reintroduced, slowly, one at a time. I washed the rugs in a hot water and vinegar wash to remove any urine smell and washed the floors with vinegar. You have to get ALL the smell off, or they just urinate again.

Also, I know my two did their pee fest because we introduced our cat into the house. They used their urine as a way to mark against the cat.
They no longer do this – but it has taken months and persistent introduction between the cat and rabbits.

I gave up. I tried all different matters of bed and blankies…mine just pee on them. So we have hay and poopies in our dryer trap and I just wash them and put them back….mine just like peeing on fabric lol
