It seems like the more rabbits I get the cleaner my house is becoming. First there’s the fact that my husband is anti-pet, which makes me want to keep any room with a rabbit in it exceptionally clean. I don’t want to have “the talk.” The one where he tells me he can’t take the mess of so many rabbits.
Then there’s the bunnyproofing. The less clutter, the less mischeif they can get into. So, I’ve been systematically purging the house of clutter. Not an easy task, since my household consists of five clutter-loving humans.
And now the rabbits are forcing me to scrub every crevice and corner of the house. I recently put safety locks on the bathroom cabinets, so the buns are allowed into the bathroom now. Well, Bandit has decided that behind the toilet is an awesome place to hang out. Ewww. Needless to say I now scrub and sanitize every inch of behind, under and around the toilet daily.
Can I rephrase your statement? “the more rabbits I get, the harder I have to work on cleaning”….
I get what you are saying, though ![]()
LOL, that’s funny Petzy. I’m not quite the cleaner you are runawaybunny but I like having a clean house and my rabbit room gets cleaned twice a day (vacuumed, fresh water, freshened up) because I can’t stand too much mess in their for my rabbits either.
I’m definitely not a cleaner. More like a junk collector/slob. But the bunnies are motivating me to change my sloppy ways.
I wish mine could be free range, but my house is too dangerous for them…(mostly too many feet not watching where they are going, and one household member who is not steady enough on his) but my bunnies’ room has to be as clean as possible. It’s too small for them and their separate habitats though, so I have to work on getting them more space and bonding the three/conglomerating their x-pens…that’s meant de-cluttering has to move into high gear.
After spending most of my life not really noticing how much junk I’ve accumulated, it is not only embarrassing, but aggravating, to think how long it will take me to get myself down to the essentials, which at this point could just be my three bunnies. two cats and my Yorkie. (Yeah *looks at kids and hubby* these have gotta go too…lol..j/k)
Oh…gotta keep the PC though…can’t do without you folks! ![]()
I definitely noticed this as well… one of my friends even said it, the first time he came to my house after I adopted Mr. Bun-Bun, “Wow, the more pets you get, the cleaner your house gets!” It’s true… My house has always been clean (OCD clean) but I have a serious clutter problem… Mr. Bun-Bun helped me by peeing in corner with books stacked up, etc. so I basically cleared every random pile of stuff he could pee on, and like you said, cleaned every corner! I didn’t have to bunny-proof exactly because Bun-Bun doesn’t chew through cords (he really doesn’t, and is only out when I’m here to watch him). But I had to get rid of every attractive thing he could shred/dig in/pee on. The apartment looks WAY better as a result (except for my bedroom which he’s not allowed in!)
MimzMum, I was worried about this too. Especially in the computer room when I first let Newton free range in here. I actually stuffed pieces of cardboard into all the swivel chair casters so they wouldn’t roll. My husband went to use the chair and was like, “What the heck is wrong with this chair?!” LOL. But it worked out ok because at this point the humans have learned to watch out for roaming bunnies and the buns have learned to hop out of the way of the humans.
I know what you mean about the junk. It wasn’t until I started packing it all up that I realized just how much stuff I had accumulated.
MayaConsuelo, that’s what I just did with my bedroom. Got rid of all the attractive shredables. And it’s never been so spacious and uncluttered. And probably never would have, if not for Desmond.
I always say that the first bunny I had as a kid taught me how to clean.. She, Nibbles, was free roam in my bedroom and *mostly* litter trained, but would chew/pee on clothing and stuff if I left it on the floor (she was unspayed). Nibbles was a dwarf and not really a jumper, so I didn’t have to worry about her jumping up on my bed.
Bahahah so true!!! If there were no pets I think I might live as people do in third world countries lol
It’s silly-I even drive home at lunch to check on everybody-everyday…I get about 8 minutes at home for lunch because of this but I just can’t resist… ![]()
Oh I totally get this! My cats do a great job of keeping me in line. If to much dirty laundry piles up on the floor… they’ll pee on it. This makes me want to wash all of it and put it neatly away because cat urine is one of the most unpleasant smells ever. I’m sure when I get my buns day after tomorrow, they’ll make me do the same. I’m going to have to declutter a space for their x pen to go.
I so agree with you, if I put anything on the ground in one of the rooms the little diva is allowed in, I immediately am now trained to think “the bunny will ______ to this, move it elsewhere!”
Welcome anneNjoerule. : )
Are you getting a pair of rabbits?
Rabbits teach us how to sufficiently bunnyproof. You think you’ve done it, then let them investigate and they soon show you the areas you’ve missed! They’re like little inspectors that give you a Pass or Fail. ![]()
You are right. Cotton has found a new area to explore. When hubby was home he would keep Cotton from there. Cotton would binky around the living room cuz he couldn’t go to hs new spot.
I dont’ want him there either. When hubby was away I got up 8 times yes 8 whole times to chase him away. finally I barracaded it off. Then he tries to go behind the curtain. There is nothing for him to chew but not being able to see him bothers me so I blocked it off too.
Now hubby is home and he sits near there and keeps him away. lol.
That chair has been there for gosh months n months he just now discovered it.
So funny, once they know they’re not supposed to be somewhere, that becomes their favorite spot!
Mr. Bun-Bun knows he’s not supposed to be on the couch after multiple pee incidents. It’s down to one couch-pee session per week now. Sometimes I’ll leave the room and he crawls up on the couch… when I come back he’s just sitting there doing nothing, but when he notices me he starts binkying like crazy, basically saying, “Look at me! I’m not supposed to be here it’s SO FUN!” Then I’ll scoot him off the couch, occasionally he’ll spray while jumping off… so I clean the couch AGAIN. I want to put the cloth cover back on but I got sick of washing it!
