Can anyone help me with any idea as to what is wrong with my rabbit?

I have a male Rex rabbit who is a year old. A few days ago I noticed white discharge from his eye which I cleansed with Normal Saline and the discharge has lessened.

Today I noticed a small whit spot (about 2mm in diameter) on the same eye and the surrounding area appears cloudy.

His behaviour hasn’t changed in any way but I am very worried about him and cant see a vet for a few days.

Any help would be sooooo appreciated. I don’t want to lose him.

The white spot is discharge or a spot in his eye? Do you think it’s on the surface or in the eye?  Has the spot or cloudyness changed appearance at all?

Does he have any nasal discharge?

Its a white spot on his eye. I had a good look at his nose and didn’t notice any nasal discharge.

Is it a bit of the mucousy “sleepy type” discharge that might have migrated over to his eyeball?

Nevermind. I just reread and you said it isn’t isolated. The rest of his eye is cloudy as well. I think a vet visit is in order.

Definelty plan on seeing the vet.. I’m just trying to prepare myself for a diagnosis. I’m also a bit concerned as he will have to wait 2 more days as I just cant get to one.

You could probably keep up the saline eye washes until the vet visits. Many rabbits like an eye wash. They might test to see if it’s from injury (like being poked with a bit of hay, an infection or something else. I think they give antibiotic eye drops or ointment for this sort of thing.

How is your rabbit otherwise? Eating, toileting, being his normal bunny self?

Thanks guys. He isn’t bothered by the eye wash which I suppose is an ok sign. I just hope that it isn’t anything sinister as it has popped up very quickly.

Hopefully, since you noticed it right away and are acting quickly, it will be something that can be reversed. I’d say that the worst case scenario is he may lose vision in that eye, but this is not the end of the world for bunnies. Their eyesight is relatively poor anyways, and they can acclimate well to only have one working eye.

He is behaving normally… no issues with tolieting, etc. Not sure if I should isolate him from his buddy though just to be sure.

I wouldn’t separate him from his friend. He needs his buddy for comfort.

I hope so…. I’m concerned about it being viral or something.
