  We are going back home for Thanksgiving and have no one to take care of Baxter while we are away so we have to take him. I know he will be comfortable where we are staying but I am nervous about the trip. It’s about 6 hours. He has a nice roomy pet carrier and does well in it. It fits perfectly behind the drivers seat on the floor in our car and doesn’t move around. I just don’t want to over stress him. He seems to do well with change though. What are some things I can do to make him more calm during our trip?

  He should be fine as he is so used to you and your family, plus, heat should not be an issue. He might even like to hop around on the seat at times to stretch his legs.

  Thank you very much. I feel a lot better. He wouldn’t be able to hop on the seat as my kids will be there. Should I let him out to hop around the car at times?

  I find they settle right in. I’ve done a couple of longer trips with them and they just snooze. In fact, I opened up my trunk from the back seat to give them room to romp and Rupert made a fort in the luggage and Kahlua peed on my moms good suitcase she generously lent me
  
  Bax likely won’t eat or drink on a short trip, but on six he might. So bring his favorite veggies and treats. Oh and start now if he doesn’t use a water bottle-try to get him to use one and he might use it on the trip.
  
  Just make sure you do not leave your vehicle unattended unless it’s locked and running. The temps whether its cold or hot where you are, change quickly in a car that’s not on. So leave it running to ensure it stays toasty or cool depending A couple of minutes to pay for gas or grab a snack is ok but if you break to eat in a resturaunt keep your car running.
  
  And bring treats so you can ‘make up’ with him when you arrive

  Thank you very much Very helpful tips. That is a great idea to let them roam the trunk and the car. We will be all packed in with the kids and their toys and luggage and things so that wouldn’t be an option for us. His carrier is pretty nice size. He has room to walk around in it a little. I was planning to bring a small box for his hay and some litter. He poops every 5 minutes lol. I don’t like the water bottles, they tend to leak and I don’t want him to get wet and get sick so I am going to bring bottled water and let him drink from his bowl when we stop for potty breaks…which is often with 3 kids and a husband who drink a large fountain soda every hour
