› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Chacha’s Re-Check (with pics)
I took Chacha to get her ears re-checked after being on Baytril Otic (given as ear drops) for 2 weeks.
The vet found no bacteria and no yeast in the ears. She said that Chacha is in great physical condition. She said that we can take two routes – x-rays (which I cannot afford at the moment due to my financial situation, which I explained to the vet and she understood) or accupuncture (she believes in alernative medicine - depending on the patient’s situation). Chacha’s teeth was thorougly examined, a little small scope put into her mouth. The vet got a clear view of her teeth and there are no abcesses, in fact, her teeth are in excellent condition ![]()
She mentioned that my bunny could be allergic to something in the house. I had Chacha in a spare bedroom before it got a leak (I saved her before anything bad happened) and was moved downstairs by the advice of my dad. We are selling the house, so there are times when I have to put her into the garage
.. so it could be an allergy. Vet said that rabbits can be allergic to things, but there are no allergy tests for rabbits .. Yes, I am hoping that someone buys this damn house
I wanna get out of here and I don’t want my bunny to suffer.
I agreed to accupuncture. It was 8 needles inserted around Chacha’s ears.. she didn’t even feel it
The vet said that rabbits have thick skin.. who knew?
She put 2 needles in Chacha’s front paws. Chacha looked like frankenstein with the needles on the side of her head![]()
The needles were left in for approx 8 minutes and the vet and I spoke during that time. Accupunture helps with sinuses, allergies, pain, etc. It was rather interesting to witness.
Vet said that she will give me a call within a week or so to check up on Chacha. she said to not be afraid to call and give an update, so we can go from there.
Chacha was complimented on her attitude. The vet sees many rabbits and said that rabbits will thump when they go back into their carrier. Oh, but not Chacha.. of course not
She has to THUMP AND GRUNT while in bunny burrito position and after she got out of the blanket
Vet said “She is so sassy!”
Chacha even peed on the towel the vet put onto the table ![]()
I mentioned my grandma and I are gonna meet up. My grandma has 3 cats and LOVES rabbits as well (she had one that thought it was a cat LOL!)and my vet recommended this natural pet shop in the area ![]()
Oh and, i told her about this site! She said she will check it out ![]()
here are some pictures (of course)

Cute pictures! I did accupuncture on my rabbit Maxine who had arthritis but I had to find a holistic vet to do this – it is extremely interesting and I wish I could have done more of this but the vet was so hard to get into – she’s the only holistic vet in this area, maybe Texas although there was another vet who did do accupuncture but she wasn’t a holistic vet.
How many accupuncture treatments did she recommend?
Not sure. She wants to see how Chacha reacts to it, if there are improvements. She is really good with calling patients, which surprised me and reassured me plenty.
The needles were very interesting. chacha did not flinch with the ear needles, but she did a little when the needles went into her paw, but she was fine.
the vet mentioned that she is taking care of her 17 year old cat. Her cat has arthritis and she does accupuncture. The cat is running around like nothing happened!
That’s so cool that she did acupuncture on her! Maybe I should look into that and hypnosis for Lolli’s weight loss! HAHAHA!
I am very glad that Chacha’s ears have healed up!
How interesting that your vet did acupuncture… I’m an acupuncturist and just bought a book specifically for veterinary acupuncture (thinking I could try it on my cat, the bunny is healthy and doesn’t need any!) But I’m freaked out to try it, I don’t know why. A lot of times people don’t even feel the needles going in, and I’ve heard of animals staying quite still while the needles are in… I’m still scared to try!
You must go to a very holistic vet to have them suggest treatments like that. Glad to hear the bunny’s ears are doing better!
*snugs Cha Cha*
Feisty ChaCha. She peed on the blanky rofl. OH she so bad.
Hope this accupunture helps her.
Maya could you have a friend accupuncturist help you with your cat? Might not be so scary then.
Love the pics. Can totally see her dwarf mix in her face there.
The other vet who sees rabbits at the clinic I go to has just trained in acupuncture. I’d give it a go if my 2 could benefit from it anytime. I’ve had it done myself and the needles are nothing. I think the thing with animals is ensuring they stay still and don’t run off with the needles hanging off them. So Maya, I can see why you’d be nervous. :p
Brittany, did you end up swapping pellets ChaCha is on?
Ah, good idea to have a helper when I finally decide to try acupuncture on my cat! I have to do more research. I’m sure that needles are never inserted perpendicularly on animals (as a lot of needles are in people.) If the needle is threaded below the skin but laying flat, it won’t go deeper and puncture anything imnportant, even if the animal rolls onto it. I know people that do it a lot on dogs and horses, makes sense for them because they’re trained to hold still.
Jerseygirl, yes I did. I don’t think that she is allergic to her pellets. I’ve been dusting and I need to tonight. I’ve been so damn busy with filing paperwork for unemployment and looking for scholarships. I need to relax. I am allergic to dust myself, but I will dust for my little girl. I have a humidifier in the living room (bunny is in the living room) and I keep it on when I am with her.
I truly do hope the accuptuncure helps.
I was visiting my boyfriend last month and he took me to an Athletic Training seminar ( he is in the health / sports profession and I’ll be going into the health field so he thought it would be interesting to me! ) and this speaker spoke of how people and animals injure themselves and get therapy. The speaker did mention that on animals and humans, massage is beneficial, however, not always good. Nerve endings are SO delicate and with massage it might do more harm than good. So he bought up accupuncure, techniques to relieve pain without massaging! IT WAS SO INTERESTING!!!!!
Chacha is full dwarf
She is not a true dwarf (Monkeybun’s Monkey is a true dwarf), but a false dwarf. Breeders don’t like false dwarfs (Big fat does as they call ’em.. rudeness!) so that is how I got my Chacha bun. I love her long ears and big booty butt LOL!
I’ve been at my grandma’s since last night and just got home, so I will be watching her in a few minutes ![]()
Holy cow! 0_o I can’t get my buns to sit still for a nail trim, God forbid I’d ever have to give them acupuncture!
Good bunny…they like peepee at the vets! ^_^ Be sure to give them plenty of that! xD
I sure hope this helps her ears. Chronic health issues with a rabbit have got to be the most stressful thing ever. I’ve had 2 kids and didn’t flip out about their medical issues this much. >.< (well close…but seriously, not as bad as I do when Mimz has to go back to the vet for the hundredth time…)
Well everyone!
I’ve petted the diva twice tonight.. NO HEAD SHAKES OR SCRATCHES!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
Hope she’s ok! I so wish my Babs was a diva!! She’s whatever the opposite of a diva is??! !![]()
Chillax?
Chacha is the only one that can boss me around ![]()
Chacha is so pretty and cute! She looks like a little diva! lol
