        Hello all!

I actually posted once before (under the name onetimeonly, I believe) when my first bun moved on from surgery complications.

Fun fact: I ended up adopting a sassy little bun from a rescue shleter that not only was the same age as my previous bun, but was taken into the shelter the day my little guy passed.

So i’m sitting in my room painting, and Sonny (Santino when he is being bad) is breathing kind of hard. I heard this over my TV. Sounds kind of like a little whistle/when us human slaves have a stuffed nose. This was when he was laying down.

He is up now eating hay and I don’t hear anything. He is pooping and eating and the only other difference is when he has free range of the living room he always goes to his designated area to pee, and its usually only once. Today he picked a different spot and peed 3 times. Not sure if this matters or not.

Anyway, should I be concerned? I lost my little guy once, and was lucky enough to get another that shared similarity (aka the creepy timing). I’d do anything to prevent it from happening agan.

        Thoughts?

I would say if it keep’s happening I would take him to the vet. Is he Neutered?

Welcome! I’m sorry to hear about your buns passing. It sure sounds like you and Sonny were meant for each other!

Were you painting pictures or walls? I’m wondering if the fumes were causing breathing stress? Course -depending on what your bun was doing (laying down) he very well could have been snoring. Bunnies can sleep with their eyes open and what your describing does sound *maybe* like a snoring bunny.

I’d keep a close eye. If he’s not doing it now likely there is no reason to bring him in because they won’t even be able to see what you saw (or heard actually). If he’s breathing funny again-during the night or in the morning-or doing anything else out of the ordinary-take him in. Perhaps on your way to work in the morning if needed?

              Please keep us posted!!

Awww…he’s cute. Yes, I would be concerned about this. I think if you aren’t familiar with his breathing habits, then you should have the vet check him out.

Better to be safe than sorry.

My bun snores, and it sounds like a little whistle, or breathing through a stuffy nose as you said, and it does appear like she is breathing harder, or just more rhythmically. If you hear this only when he sleeps, I would say it’s a snore, but if you’re hearing it while he’s active during the day and not sleeping, then my vote is to take him in. We’re painting our house as well (this is kind of a creepy coincidence too!), and I never allow her to run around in a room that has been painted for at least 24 hours, and she isn’t allowed anywhere near the paint. I suggest doing the same, for safety.

                  He is VERY cuuuute

I’m tipping you were not painting walls.

I’d keep observing with the breathing. It might be something he does in his sleep you haven’t noticed before.
Change in litter habits though can indicate that something is up. He is normally good in using a litter box? What type of litter do you use?

I remember you posting about losing your other rabbit. I’m pleased to see you welcomed another into your life. Your naughty one has similar looks to my naughty one. Rascals!

He is neutered (I adopted him already neutered…I wasn’t going through that heartbreak again)

…bunnies can snore? omg…that’s the frickin cutest thing I have heard!

What Isabelle describes sounds exactly right…it did look like he was breathing harder…heh, my bunny snores. I was actually painting on a canvas (think like 12 in x 8 in), but i’ve done this before with him around and never heard that noise before.

He was all normal this morning, aka being demanding. But seriously, eating, drinking and using his litter box has all remained the same. No funny sounds.

If I hear it again while he is being active, i’ll take him to the vet right away. Thanks for the advice!

My rabbit who snores only does it whiles he resting. Hopefully it was a one time occurrence. Heavy breathing and nasal sounds would be something to be concerned about.

one of mine snores and it sounds like a whistle too.

If he does it only when lying down, he is most likely asleep and snoring. However, if you see a discharge from his nose or eyes and he makes this sound when he is not resting, or if there are other signs of listlessness it would be a veterinary matter.

I don’t have a recording of my bunny’s whistle-snore, but I had a little Himalayan at my house for bonding once who snored like this:
