I have been researching abscesses in rabbits on the internet and have come across Bicillin injections and implants. Because a lot of people on here are from America, Im sure that you have heard of it… maybe had experiences with it….

One of Sallys friends in America is a vet, and he said that Bicillin would save Stus life. Sally also has anoher rabbit with an infection in its tooth, and he said a year ago that Bicillin could fix bolly straight away, but hes still battling the problem.  Sally is desperate for the stuff, but we have hit a dead end with the vets here.

Only one problem, its not available in Australia. And our vet can’t import it.

So, just wondering, is it hard to get in America? Is it a prescription drug? Does anyone have any information about it? Can it be posted here?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s a link with some articles on this:

I have never used this only heard and read the articles on people who have used it with great success.  I have no idea how readily available it may be in the US either though.

Has she tried contact David Vella in Sydney? I think he’s a US trained exotics vet. http://www.davidvella.com.au/

You guys are awesome, thank you so much! I looked up all the info on Bicillin and looked up David Vella… Then I tried calling him.
His secretary says that he is away on holiday until the end of November, but I have booked a phone consultation with his partner Alana on Monday morning at 8am. Also, we have to fax Stus entire history to her tomorrow night, before the Appt, so when I go see Sally and Stu tomorrow night I can get a report on her history and go from there. Fingers crossed. You guys are champions thank you so much xxx

I believe Binkybunny’s rabbit Rucy (who had chronic abscess issues) did have the beads implanted before… but I think in her case they only provided a temporary solution. Rucy had also had multiple abscess surgeries thru the years. She would know more on this topic. This is great you’re able to get a phone consult!
